I am 17 yrs old. I have had pain in my lumbar for 6months now and it gradually got worse. Got an x-ray done that shows arthritis. Apparently it isn't meant to cause pain? GP has refereed me for an MRI scan. Why do you think he did?
I can't sit for long, neither can I stand for long.
Laying on my left side for long hurts.
Usually get a burning and tingling sensation in my back.
I think your doctor is doing the right thing by sending you for a MRI as any other diagnosis is just guesswork, you may have something in your spinal column that will not show on an X-Ray.
I know it is so frustrating waiting for the scan but when he gets the results it will help him give you the proper treatment be it a referral to a specialist or medication.
Sorry but all you can do is take over the counter medication or whatever the doctor has prescribed and wait.
17 seems so young to have these types of problems. I hope you find a solution and feel better. The blood in the stool worries me. I have been experiencing pain in my back while take a deep breath. I'm told this may a form of arthritis as well. Good luck.
I know right.. that's why my mum seems very worried. The blood in the stool worries me as well but my doctor did not seem to find it worrying. I have also been experiencing the same symptom as you. It's almost like a ripping pain?
My back and bowel problems started at 17, so am familiar with the concept. Am disbelieving that someone has informed you that arthritis doesn't cause pain! Cannot possibly be your GP. Young children can get this problem. Hopefully, the MRI scan will tell the exact problem.
Am sure if you have told your GP all the symptoms he/should advise in greater detail.
An MRI scan will determine exactly where your problems lie. It's painless and am wishing you the best.
Sorry to hear you are in so much pain at such a young age. There is something called Juvenile Arthritis which affects people 18 and younger so your doctor is doing the right thing by sending you for an MRI scan as it is very good at showing up any problems with the spine and will hopefully help him diagnose exactly what is wrong and therefore refer you to the correct specialist. . Did your doctor do an examination when you complained of blood in your stools, it might be something as simple as piles but it is always best to have these things checked. Have you a date for your MRI scan yet? Please keep us informed of your progress. Kind regardsx
There is another post today with some possible information which may or may not be similar to your problem. the title is - i cannot move my legs when in bed during the night.
I hope you are feeling a bit better (but I in reality know you won't be) and see if you can take some Paracetamol and you can take up to eight of these in 24 hours for example two every six hours but any more than that can damage your liver etc. They probably will not feel like they are doing much but they are better than nothing.
