have had back issues for years, last number of months got to point really limited my daily activities, routine, cleaning , cooking etc, so referred to pain clinic. Had 2 treatments to date, first treatment, 8 needles of bupavacaine, into lower back, and one in each groin area, have spinal stenosis, osteo, degenerativer, and a buldging disk determined years ago from MRI,. first week wasnt too bad, 2nd week after same treatment, like 2 days after, got exxcrutiating pain, coming from back, into groin, and knife like pain in upper right quadracep, and tingling, that,s been going on for 9 days now, getting MRI this afternoon, but wondering , I felt one needle, put me thru roof almost, think went right into nerve directly, now thinking that one damaged, or touched actual nerve, been very painful, can,t stand or walk hardly, using walker even in my apt, sitting or lying on opposite side, gives slight relief, anyone out there had this experience, be interested in hearing your story, thank you

this is the risk of having these injections due to the fact they don’t do them under X-ray. This is the best way to get them where you need them I struggle everyday with lots of pain issues they can’t do this on me cus it’s all so shot and bad so I feel your pain and doctors not believing you

Hello arvine, we share one thing in common the first injection I had in my knee in clinic I nearly hit the roof , it was an unguided one . Since which time I have had further in varied areas without pain. But success for me has been very limited in controlling the ongoing varied pain with two possible diagnosis tendon wear in the knee region and general osteoarthritis multi joint. However I get daily pain under the knee lower leg to spite total knee replacement, and other joints plus pain in groin and lower back or hip. I have lots of muscle aches which I think are due to some of the drugs. Sadly I do not know what to suggest as what works for one is not best for others. Have you had patches at all? And each different illness require different pain care I believe but that's just my opinion. Remember Gps are limited to NHS budget constraints.

thank you, well I was able to see report of MRI, thru what we call pocket health, along with the usual spinal stenosis, degenerative, osteo, etc, showed impingement at nerve root L2, causing severe pain , groin, front upper thigh, right lower back, thigh pain is the most severe at moment, this is now 11 days of constant pain, at my wits end, painkillers don,t seem to do much, now have to wait for dr to get report, for an appt, and not sure what next steps he will suggest, I am reluctant to have any more injections, since I really feel the needle injections I had over 2 weeks ago, actually caused this to happen, happened 2 days after last ( second treatment of injections, feel one actually hit that nerve,

Hello arvine, I felt the the injection I had possibly hit the nerve or a bone in my case . So you could be right, back injections do need to be given carefully preferably with screen guidance. I heard a rumour in my case that they thought I would not come back. Hopefully it won't be long before you see the specialist and get some relief even if it lowers the amount of pain, my friend bought one of those back braces that heats up when she had a problem in her back, but in your case its a bit too soon to be self managing. Fingers crossed for you that they can ease the pain.

well Katie, I have been going to a decompression clinic , non invasive treatment, need 20 sessions they tell me, it,s a bed and they use a machine DX6000, where they target the disc where nerve impingement is happening they tell me, it basically stretches the spine, vertabrae, and idea being take pressure off nerve by providing gap between vertabrae, letting damaged disc protract back in off nerve root, have had 5 of 20 treatments, very expensive, part is paid by my insurance thankfully, but to date, can,t say have had a lot of relief, keep telling me to be patient, Im 75 and have had lots of issues with back for years, degenerative discs, spinal stenosis, osteoarthritis last few years, and bulging disc, this episode is something new started now about 5 weeks ago after that injection into nerve I mentioned before,I am hoping this therapy, is going to help, give me some relief in nerve pain, that I have in front of thigh, severe at times, along with numbness, I really do not want to have to get actually surgery, so I am committed to have all these sessions, but am getting very frustrated , exhausted and depressed, along with the fact my son has had relapse of leukemia and back in Princess Margaret Hosptial in Toronto, am over the top anxious, and stressed for him, trying to keep it all together, be positive, but have to say, it,s really hard,

Sorry to hear of your sons relapse, hope things improve soon. Your treatment sounds interesting. Here in the uk most treatments are low level for pain because our treatment comes out of tax payers money. Or private funding if you have a health insurance policy which some of my family have as part of there employment packages. 20 weeks is not long, but if not working is an expensive price to pay, plus the stress. Coping with stress is the biggest obstacle. I am like you had varied pain problems for years, same age as you, with the usual stresses of everyday life. I have other issues health wise compounding the stress think at our age we could sit back and relax but no, more problems to solve. Take Care and hope your son recoups soon with treatment. I am a widow and my family are not near by.
