Hello

The GP and specialists say that is not RA or OA, so they do not know what the problems is, there are things that can be considered. One of them is posture that will put stresses and strains on the spine and shoulders.

Sometimes it can be as simple as slouching in the living room in badly designed furniture. The other problem is a cheep bed that fails to give support.

If you are carrying children this can put stresses upon the neck and shoulders, especially if you are using those carriers to the front or rear.the upper spine will give problems.

e

When at work if you stand all day that puts stresses again across the shoulders and spine, and this also compresses the spine, giving pains that effects you to want too pull back on your spine and straighten the shoulders.

Another problem can be if you have an office job again if the seat is not right and your computer is not at the right hight this also can cause stresses and strains. If your seat is not supporting your spine this can also cause problems.

If the distance between keyboard and desk top this can also put stress upon the shoulders and neck.

All I can suggest at this time is look into the environments that you are living in and the stresses and strains in modern living, even washing dishes and general housework can cause problems across upper spine and shoulders.

Look at what you are doing, make a list and discuss with your GP, all of above does not need to cost a lot of money and can be put right quite easily. If one technique does not work another one can be looked at.

Discuss with GP, the solving of these problems can be sorted, sometimes an OT can be arranged to look at the home environment, what is right for one is not right for another.

If you need to discuss this further after thinking about it give a call I am on this site quite regular and possibly go through some selective ideas with you. As you see from above it can be a time user, and personally I will need to be selective if you have some ideas.

You must also realise I am not a health worker of any kind, informations I give out are suggestions only

Good Luck

BOB

Have you had a CT scan or MRI? It may be facet joint problems, nerve or disc problems. Have you seen a specialist or physio? You really need to get a correct diagnosis before you can consider treatment.

Check out the signs of "inflammatory back pain" from the National Ankylosing Spondylitis Society website. If you tick the boxes for that, then insist your GP refers you to a rheumatologist who is a specialist in spondyloarthritis, or to an early ankylosing spondylitis clinic. Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is very difficult to diagnose because there aren't any blood tests for it, and even inflammatory markers like CRP and ESR can be negative. It does sound like you need to see a rheumatologist though. If "back trouble" runs in your family, then thats another reason to consider AS.

spondyloarthritis (including ankylosing spondylitis) doesn't show positive on blood tests. RA can be "seronegative. If the problem is chronic, then you need to be seen by a rheumatologist.

H, I'm 65 & had ongoing back issues since my mid 20's.

Have tried various regular doctors and medical specialists without ever getting any benefit. Tried massage and that was a total failure from 4 different people. The only thing that has been an on going rand routinely successful answer for me is chiropractic. of the ten different chiropractors I have seen, one was a failure 5 had varying degrees of success and 4 have been very effective to absolutely awesome in resolving my issues. The best is the one who I currently see and he is into kinesiology in addition to his chiropractic skills and he is just amazing with how he helps sort out the problems and causes! It may take some searching for you to find one and mostly they are not subsidised by the health care system so you have to pay.
