My mum has been under treatment for metastatic ovarian cancer since 3 years. She had caeboplatin 4 cycles, then olaparib for 2 years, then debulking surgery in August this year and 6 doses of Carboplatin. However, recent scan showed it has progressed and deemed carboplatin resistant. Oncologist has suggested Liposomal Doxorubicin. Has anyone hot any success stories on this drug. Any side effects my mum should be aware of?
Thank you.

Hi. I had it with carboplatin. Aside from fatigue and some nausea this chemo can affect skin and the mouth membranes. It’s important to use a heavy lotion on hands and feet several times a day for a week after treatment. Also there are various mouth washes. I just used warm salt water. I found this chemo fairly easy to tolerate. It worked for me but didn’t quite get me to ned.
I have had only one treatment of liposomal Doxirubin (Doxil). It’s too soon to know whether it is helping the cancer since I haven’t had a CA-125 since I started taking it. So far, my side effects are minimal. Some fatigue, occasional unsettled stomach. I’ve been able to take my 30 minute walks most days. I’m taking it with Avastin. I’m putting Aquaphor, a heavy moisturizer, on my hands & feet twice a day to hopefully avoid hand/foot syndrome. My hair is coming back. I lost it with Taxol. My CA-135 was 1100 when I started Doxil. It was 17,000 in February 2024. I’ve been unable to have surgery due to the nature of my advanced cancer HGSOC stage 4a and where metastases are located. Good luck to you,
