platinum resistant !

It looks like I might be planinum resistant, so chemo has been stopped, Ive to wait for scan to see if the 3 sessions I've has done anything at all, but CA125 has not really gone down as much as they hoped. Does anyone know where we go from here, feel a bit bleak as I think this is the start of the downward spiral ?

Hi Sue,

After my third line of chemo the cancer became platinum resistant and I was given Etoposide. I went for my scan results yesterday after completing the course Ca125 was 80 but I have a cough and think that was what caused it to be raised but the scan showed an "improved picture" and that chemo had worked. I took it orally.

I had very few side effects except for losing my hair again but had a new wig.

I see my onc again in six weeks without having a blood test he said he will go how I feel.

Ask your onc about Etoposide.

Very best of luck

Hi Sue

I think I may be in a similar situation.I've just completed my 4th round of chemo, which was platinum only. After 3 doses the ca125 had come down a bit , so I completed the last 3 and it fluctuated a bit but the trend is now upwards again.

I see my oncologist in a couple of weeks, but I asked him last time what he would do if platinum stopped working.

He said i could stay with him and have Etoposide, or he could refer me to the Marsden.I think i will go to the Marsden and see what they have to offer. This is likely to include clinical trials , but I think they also offer a wider range of treatments not available to me locally.

I think there is always hope when trying a new treatment.

All the best to you

Hi Sue, I am sorry to hear about your latest set-back. Having been in contact with you for quite a while, I know you will keep trying to look for a way forward and try to make the most of what this ****** disease keeps dishing out. It may be an idea to give the helpline nurses a ring. They have so much info about what is available and where and what you may be able to try in terms of treatment or trials. I am sure you have their number but it's 0845 3710554. Do ring and have a chat. They have So much knowledge and experience.

Thinking of you and sending hugs

Love Wendy xx
