Platinum resistant?

So my oncologist thinks I may be becoming platinum resistant as for 1st recurrence have been put on gem/carbo and ca125 continuing to rise. Anyone else had this, he is thinking about changing chemo, just waiting for latest ca125 in case I'm just a late responder.

Hi. I had gem carbo last year and although my markers didn't rise it didn't work very well for me. I was told I had become platinum resistant. Currently on weekly taxol xxx

Thanks for your reply, did you have a break before going on weekly taxol? How is it? When I was on carbo/taxol I had really bad bone pains, just wondering if weekly taxol is an easier regime x

Hi. Finished last October and had a break over Christmas and started Taxol in January. Side effects I've experienced are tiredness and a feeling of anxiousness. Worse time is 3 days after chemo then it wears off. Haven't experienced bone pain. Xxx

Hi. I was put on single agent carboplatin for 2nd recurrence in December last year. Although it appeared to be working initially, my ca125 (which had gone down by 700 to 1000) had gone back up to 1300 before chemo number 4. I saw consultant before number 5 at which time she said it looked like I had become resistant.

As I currently feel well and have no symptoms, I am currently on watch and wait with close monitoring of ca125 and instructions to contact team if I have any worries. This will apparently give my bone marrow chance to recover in preparation for next chemo (weekly paclitaxol) as and when indicated by bloods and/or symptoms.

Whilst it's nice to have a break from hospital visits, I can't help but wonder whats going on inside whilst I'm off treatment. I just have to try and enjoy the positives. I hope you prove to be a late responder and ca125 comes down, but if not, good luck with the next cocktail. X

It is, but what choice do we have? Hope the wait isn't too stressful for you. X

Hi Sallychiverton,

I had 2 recurrence before I was told I'm now platinum resistant then went Caelyx for 6 months. I hope it works out that you are just a late responder the 125 can be a bit tricky.

Hope it woks out alright.

best wishes Lorraine xx

I became platinum resistant after my second recurrence. I was put on calyx. There's also weekly taxol, which I'm on now. So there are other options for you.
