Hi. I believe cisplatin may be harsher and a bit stronger and a study showed carboplatin to be equally effective. However if people can’t tolerate carboplatin then cisplatin can be used.

Hi, from what I know, Carbo is the first choice but Cis can be used if you've had a reaction to Carbo. As Delia mentioned, I believe Cis is a harsher chemo but both are very effective for ovarian cancer.

what’s the hardest side effect of Cisplatin?..can I do something to myself tolerate it better?

I'm not sure. My mum only ever had Carbo. I'm sure there are ladies here that will be able to provide a first hand account.

Hi, I had a severe reaction to carbo so can no longer have it and had to swap to cisplatin which is indeed much harsher in terms of side efffects. Both worked equally well tho.

I had reaction to carbo 10 minutes before I finish taking the med-my doctor wants to try carbo again but I am afraid-I am considered platinum sensitive since I’ve been bed for almost 3 years and out of chemo-afraid to try Cisplatin as well since I hear it’s too harsh-what should I do?

Hi. My reaction was severe, I started to react as soon as they put the drip up and started the infusion, I had a grade 3 anaphylactic shock. If you have had a reaction then the medical staff will be aware and monitor you, possibly giving more antihistamine and/or slowing the infusion. For me that wasn’t an option and I had no choice but to swap to Cisplatin. Yes, Cisplatin is harsher, I won’t lie, but it is doable. I had it for 3 cycles and then later for 6 cycles after a second recurrence. Obviously nobody can tell you what to do but if I was in your situation I would be guided by your medical team, they will have dealt with such a situation before. Good luck xx

here in Greece the medical team is indifferent in most cases-they don’t inform you about the choices they make considering your health issues and furthermore they lack experience in cases that are rare…so there is no proper consultation that’s why I am writing here

Everyone is different and your team will tailor your treatment to be the best for you. If (for whatever reason) they think that you'll do better with cisplatin rather than carboplatin they will monitor you for side effects and adjust the dose if necessary.

oh I c. In that case you will still need to be guided by your team. all I will say is that whilst Cisplatin is harsher it works the same as Carbo. Good luck with your treatment going forward x

you can get through this the alternative if not is grim I have had both and it is doable it will knock your neutrophils down but they can give you neulasta if needed
