Hello, I'm stage 4 HGOC diagnosed Jan 2018. Had the usual surgery and chemo. Tried Parp Rubraca after recurrence and it didn't work reoccurred again last year, ended chemo of carboplatin and caelyx in October 2023. I've had CT scan and it's back again but as I'm now considered platinum resistant can anyone with a similar story give me an idea of what chemo combinations are possible at this stage so I'm forewarned for my meeting on 12/2/24Thankyou,
Platinum resistance: Hello, I'm stage 4 HGOC... - My Ovacome
Platinum resistance
Hi Fizzgirl
I am doing carbo/Caelyx and although currently it’s working, I am also anticipating that platinum resistance may be round the corner.
Plaxitaxel on a weekly basis seems to be the favoured option but it would be well worth looking at trials if you are up for that.
There seems to be a move towards trials that re challenge or boost drugs that we may have become resistant to…I am hoping to get on some kind of maintenance drug when I finish chemo via a trial as I have run out of NHS options.
Best of luck with it xx
Hello Fizzgirl Sorry to here about your recurrences. I think you might want to ask about gemcitabine. My oncologist has mentioned it to me but I have not tried it yet. My understanding is that you can have with carbo as a combination even though you are resistant. One of my pals in our support group is on this combination at the moment. Weekly taxol is also a possible option.
I would also ask about what trials might be available either in your area or beyond. As you cannot try another parp inhibitor with out a trial. Well certainly not on the NHS.
Wishing you well for your next meeting to discuss options. Onwards and upwards. BB. xx
There is a new drug in the US called Elahere for platinum resistant people and I think it may be on trial in the UK. Its generic name is Mirvetuximab something. Also there may be immunotherapy trials. Ovacom can probably advise you. Good luck!
is SBRT an option for you? I have done that for two of my recurrences and it bought me quite a bit of time off chemo! Plus, there is now evidence that these obliterated cells may help to teach our immune system to fight these cancer cells. I will try to find the article but my onc was very much aware of what I was talking about.
ask about immunotherapy. My Cancer is clear cell, platinum resistant. I just started Opdivo-Yervoy. It shows good results for stubborn ovarian tumors. Will keep you posted.
Hi Fizzgirl.
Yes, try for a trial. Where are you? If you can reach London the University Hospital had two running under Dr Owen Miller, a lovely lady. I couldn’t get on them, one needed no more than 3rd line and for the other my liver damage was too great, but you might be luckier. The Royal Marsden was full.
I was considered platinum resistant in December after Caelyx and Crisplatin (an alternative to Carboplatin, which I had a reaction to). I’m now on Paclitaxel as a last resort - and my CA125 has come down from nearly 5.000 to just 96, in 6 weeks of weekly Paclitaxel. I haven’t had a CT scan since December but I’m very hopeful.
Good Luck,
Iris 🤗
