First days after Chemo

I had my first dose of Carboplatin on Thursday and so far not feeling too bad. I had Carboplatin/Taxol last time. Can I expect less side effects on Just Carboplatin?

Yes! I was in Carbo combined with Caelyx and suffered far fewer bad effects. No bone pain! No hair loss!

I think the Caelyx knocked me out for the first week, but after that, I ran around pretty normally.

Hope this dies the trick,

Hugs,

Laura

Dear Lindaura,

so glad I saw this post. I'm starting a 6 month cycle of Carbo/Caelyx tomorrow (Sept 2nd) for a first recurrence of stage 3c. I did well with Carb alone the first time but had a recurrence after 8 months which is probably why Caelyx has been added.

The team decided I couldn't have surgery as I had the full debulking September 2018 resulting in stable disease. I have a 5.6cm tumour near to my liver a 2.5cm on my peritoneum and some cancer across the top of my peritoneum. All sounds so terrifying and I feel chemo will not shrink the tumours enough. I know it will not cure me but we can all hope for a little more time.

I pray you find some answers to help you very soon Lindaura.

My love to you,

Angela xx

Dear Angela,

So sorry about your recurrence, but the combination of Carbo and Caelyx might be all you need.

I think the main thing is to give in to babying/pampering yourself that first week after infusion. Take your anti- nausea meds diligently and then try to live normally the rest of the time.

Best wishes, and hugs,

Laura

I think so. I found the Taxol + Carbo + Avastin a lot harder than Carbo, Gemzar & Avastin. Drink lots of fluids. Be good to yourself. 📺 🛏 😴

Hi

I had carboplatin only for last treatment and had a lot fewer side effects. Been chemo free for a year (had Niraparib which did not work for me).

Start a third line of carbo on Friday so fingers crossed again.

Good luck

Janet

I'll be following you in a month's time. I had carboplatin back in 2011and had few side effects but I was strong and healthy then. I'm not sure what to expect this time but for sure, you won't lose your hair and no neuropathy so that must be better. Good luck! Gina xx

Never had Carboplatin alone but assume with one less drug, less side effects. You may not want to know but I think they increase the dosage a bit when its just one drug, not two. Still I think Carbo alone should have less side effects and a Laura said--no hair loss! ox

Hi

I was on Carboplatin single agent. It didn't cause any nausea or vomiting, but I did take all the anti-sickness meds religiously! The main problem for me was increasing fatigue with each cycle, but I did have various co-morbidities which didn't help. No hair loss, although it did get a bit thin. The weirdest thing was, I always felt as if I were walking on balloons, so it must have affected my brain cell!

So sorry you've had a recurrence. I was incredibly lucky - diagnosed with fallopian tube cancer stage 1C, and have been in remission for six years.

Wishing you the very best of luck, and hope Carbo annihilates the beast forever xx

I’ve got to start on Carbo as my Letrozole has stopped working. I didn’t have many side effects the first time so hoping I will tolerate it well again this time

Am back on carboplatin and taxol for recurrence after 6 years. Had no problems with chemo last time. Had first treatment last Thursday. Was fine on Friday and then came nausea, massive fatique and abdominal cramping. Have the nausea under control now but still have a lot of abdominal pain. Has anyone had to deal with this ? One can never tell how you will react to chemo.
