CA125 rising following first chemo

Hi. My Ca125 has gone up from 1200 to 1600 after my first session of chemo of Carboplatin and Taxol. I’ve just had my second session yesterday and my oncologist said to wait to see him f it comes down after this one.

I am worried it’s not working.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Any advice would be welcome

Thank you x

Sometimes it does happen that ca125 goes up initially. Just take it one day at a time and fingers crossed you will see a change after chemo 2 xx

Yes it happened to me - mine went from 2700 to 5400 after the first chemo then it started to come down quickly (I only had the carbo bit for first treatment and they added taxol for the second round) x good luck 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻

Thank you. That’s helped putting my mind at rest. Am I right in thinking it came down after the second session?

My moms ca before firs chemo was 220 but after 1st 230, doctor said that probably it is because bad cells die and he was true after second it goes down to 116

Yes it happened to me — I was told as the cancer cells die after the first chemo they release the Ca125 protein . It’s known as tumour flair . It came down after the second and subsequent treatments —- hope that is reassuring x x

It happened to me. Came down on 2nd or 3rd can remember which. Just to give you hope, Ive just completed six months on taxol and my CA125 has gone from 1000 to 51 ! All tumours have shrunk and are stable. Just going too monitor me with bloods for now. Good luck to you. I wont say dont worry as its impossible not to but be kind to yourself. Let us know how you get on. Xxx

Hi, I too used to put great store on CA125 results but now don’t even bother to check them as in my case have found them unreliable. It’s more how I am feeling that is important to me now after 3.5 years of fighting this beast. Iside X

Echoing all the other replies - docs told me to expect tumor markers to initially go up as cancer cells die off. Be patient but keep tracking the numbers.
