I had my first chemo on Friday. I had carboplatin and taxol and spent the whole weekend being sick. I spent yesterday in hospital on a saline drip while they tried different anti emetics. I'm really concerned because I am on weekly taxol so I reacted that badly to half a dose. Is it likely to get worse as I have more treatments?

Hi
I had an allergic reaction to carbo/taxol and had to have a slower infusion with anti histomines, but it sounds like they havent got your anti sickness and steroids quite right yet,so don't panic.
You need to talk this through with your team.
I couldn't eat and kept being sick due acid after surgery and take Omaprizole and that has done the trick for me.
Don't despair just speak to your team and I am sure it can be sorted

As the others have said your team will be able to sort out your meds to help you with the sickness. There's no reason for you to suffer with it. I hope they get it sorted soon for you. Xx
I agree speak to your team and they will either adjust the dose or give you meds to cope, dont suffer in silence, Take any meds you are given and do ask for something stronger than Motillium as it certainly didnt do it for me.

Thank you. They've given me metocloparamide at the moment and some levomepromide. I'm hungry and eating for the first time since the chemo!!
I had a bad reaction after my first chemo of sickness had to get the emergency doctor to give me a injection. I then stayed on anti sickness tablets for a couple of months and it was fine.
Sorry to hear your first chemo wasn't a good experience, sounds like the anti nausea drugs may need tweaking. If it's any comfort I too had my taxol every week and the carbo every three weeks (I was on a trial to see if this was the best way to administer the drugs and it proved to be best for the patient). I found the taxol was fine weekly, it was the carbo that made me nauseous so they adjusted the drugs which helped a bit but unfortunately it is one of the side effects of the carbo but it was only 6 sessions of it and 18 of the taxol. Stick with it as it's really worth it in the long run. Good luck xxx
Dear Sian - I was violently sick during my first chemo (and still am but less so). Hold in there - it will improve. As others say talk to your team and get better anti-sickness. I tried not eating during chemo but that didn't help - I found nibbling the whole day somehow helped. It is utterly debilitating and upsetting and horrible but hang in there - it should improve. Good luck and all best wishes - Nicola
Hello- I just finished my 6 cycles of the carbo/taxol regime. i was somewhat nauseous with the combo but the weekly taxol I never was sick. i talked to doctor into just the taxol on the two weeks in between the combo. No premeds or steroids or benedryl. I felt much better as the pre meds made me sick. i know its different for all but you may find you are fine with the taxol only.
