Headache after chemo treatment

Hi ladies,

My mum started her second cycle of chemo today, a combination of Gemzar and Carboplatin. She didn't get symptoms last cycle till approx 24 hours afterwards but has had a severe headache pretty much straight away. Just wondering if anyone has suffered and similar symptoms or if it's just a coincidence?

Hi im on 2nd cycle of gem/carbo and i had chemo friday and also have a bad headache for 2/3 days like a dull ache... hope your mum is doing ok sending u hugs xxxx

I had Gem and I found that I did have a headache behind my eyes in particular after it for about half a day, it then abated, I am sure your Mum can take paracetamol if she needs to but best to check with her CNS

Hi,

I didn't have headaches after chemo but I do have them quite often. When I was on chemo I didn't want to take more pills and I found the 4Head stick, if used as soon as I noticed a headache would often cure it without the need for paracetamol.

You can get the stick in Boots and although it is about £5 it lasts for ages. I have one permanently by my bed and a second in my handbag.

Hi jodi. I had headaches on carbo/gem particularly a day or two after the gem only day (day 8). I had to take constant paracetamol but it usually settled down in a day or two. I also found an ice pack helped for across my forehead or the back of my neck. It's not nice for your mum but it seems quite normal for gemzar/gemcitibine. Xxx

I am in carbo/taxol and I have had severe headaches more often than I had pre chemo ... I have put it down to another side affect 😫

Does she take steroids before her treatments? I was taking 5 tabs. of Dexamethasone night before and morning of. I had a headache for a week. They cut the dose down to 4 tabs. and I haven't had a headache since (post treatment #4). She may be getting an intravenous dose of steroid by the nurses pre chemos .
