Hi just a quick question really - I had debalking surgery 18 months ago and since then I have 6 monthly check ups with the gynaecologist/surgeon who did it - is there anyone who still sees theirs? Or do you just see your Onc now? Thanks.

I haven’t seen my gynae onc surgeon since I left hospital post surgery - I was surprised not to even get a follow up check up as women having normal hysterectomy that I lknow had at least had their cervix checked for healing! I’ve a few post surgery issues but whenever I talk about them to onc, the suggestion seems to be a referral to just the local gynae team and not my original surgeon x

Thanks for your response x

Oh dear the complete opposite to me then - it’s strange how different hospitals work isn’t it you’d think they’d practice similarly- I should be grateful they keep a close eye on me - hope you are keeping well x

Yes have visits every 6months

Great didn’t know if that was normal x

Hi Girt, nice to hear from you, hope you are doing ok?

I’ve never seen anyone other than the Oncologist - since my Op last summer. I think when I finish Avastin, I may go to a mixed clinic to see the Gyn/Surgeons but I would’ve liked to have seen them sooner, especially after the Op.

Best wishes,

Linda xx 🌻🌻

Hi Linda thanks for your response- hope you are doing ok on Avastin and that it’s working for you - I’m finishin chemo next week - I’ve been on Carbo/Gem and suffered with low blood counts and liver problems throughout - it will be good to finish and get some rest from treatment for a while - got scan in 2 weeks 😖 speak soon xxx

Hi Girt,

I'm in the North-East and they no longer do follow-ups after hysterectomy's which I think is shocking! If they get the nasties out and cells are clear, that's pretty much it. This can be a Iot to take in.

I was told I'd be followed up by a general Gynae every six months.I was told that if symptoms returned to contact my GP.

I saw the general Gynae in October but, due to returning symptoms was referred back to a Gynae/Onc in March. I'm now back with that team awaiting another surgery.

Best wishes Clare xx

Thanks for your reply- sorry to hear of your problems- all the best for your surgery xxx

My local hospital does the follow up reviews with the gynae team, rather than the oncology team once active chemo has finished. I sometimes saw my surgeon, and sometimes someone else from the team. I didn’t like the surgeon, so I was always relieved to see someone else!

Thank you for your response hope you are well

Good to have hear that you’re finishing chemo next week. My surgery was in 2008 so my experience is probably no longer relevant but I saw Gynae and Onc alternatively for a couple of years then just the Gynae for the next four. Sending you very best wishes for a well derserved rest once treatment finished. Jo 🌺🌼🌸🌻🌹

Hi Jo thanks - how are you getting on? You’ve started chemo again haven’t you? Hope all going well and not too many side effects xxx

in reply toShropshireJo

Glad you’re half way through stick with it you’ll get there xxx 😊

I used see my gynae onc for a few years but seeing I am no longer a surgical patient, its now my Oncologist totally.

Thanks a lot

Hi lovely, good to hear from you. I’m on second line carbo/caelyx now - not enjoying it much, but needs must I suppose! I haven’t seen my surgeon (except in the car park) since my operation. I’ve wondered about this myself.

Hope all goes well with the scan - I can hear a pub in Worcestershire calling when we’re al back up and running!!

Lots of love Ali xx

in reply toAlifit

Hi Ali. Hope you managed to get away on holiday - I had Carbo caelyx last year and had good results from it so hope you do to - yes we’ll all have to get together soon love Deb xxx

Hi Girt. Depends.. sometimes the surgeon is also the oncologist. When I was still under Royal Marsden care in London (private insurance), I was seen regularly both by the onc consultant and a gyn onc surgeon, as they worked hand in hand.

Here in Germany, the check ups are typically performed by a local onc/gyn doctor, not the surgeon. Except for me, as I insisted on being looked after by a specialist in a big university hospital, who also happens to be my gyn onc surgeon (and a real pretty boy as well, which of course had no influence on my choice). I just rather trust him and his well connected research team with my rare cancer type than the local chap, who was putting me on estrogen hormones (when all the recent research suggests that anti-hormones are the way to go for low grade serous OC).

All the best. Maus

in reply toMaus123

Thanks Maus always good to know other people’s experiences- it is good to keep having checks with the Gynae - I’m under a separate Onc but wasn’t sure if it was the norm to still see the Gynae consultant xxx

Only saw my surgeon the morning after the op and 4 weeks later when I had diagnosis of oc. Referred me to oncologist. I usually see her underlings as I think I ask too many questions for her liking. Saw one at my checkup yesterday who gave me an incorrect CEA test result number smiling as she did. I said is that not a cause for concern. She then corrected herself and said - oh sorry that should be the ca19 result. So all ok in the end.

Glad treatment was ok for you.

Best wishes

Fay

Thanks Fay yes treatment ok it’s the scan I’m now worried about but will keep my positive head on 😊 hope you’re well x

Hi Girt! My Gyn/Onc was also my surgeon and he is the only doc I see. I am 3 years post debulking and see him in early September. I am hoping to go to a yearly check up after this one. But he has wanted me to find a General Physician to take over any other health care unrelated to OC.

Hi, I see my surgeon one time, then the onc the next time. They alternate.

Never saw my gynaecologist after hospital discharge .

Only onc but for 3 monthly bloods for 2 years ....

Michelle

Hi Girt, I haven't seen the gynae surgeon since the operation, but my onc did train as a surgeon (apparently she was too slow and neat!) Good luck with the check ups, Dawn

When I had surgery at the hospital I usually go to for oc, I had several visits to surgeon. Last year I had more surgery, at a different hospital after a second opinion was sought. I had 1 follow up appointment, then was discharged & referred back to oncs at the usual hospital. Di

I saw the surgeon once a couple of weeks after the op and that was it - dismissed and he retired anyway! Have also been told there will only be 'chats' for the chemo follow up so I'm obviously in cutback city!

I just see my oncologist every 6 months. It's not even that really as appointments get delayed. It will be nearly a year since my last check up. They're probably all different, some are happy to pass you on to someone else others like to keep their eye on you themselves.

As long as you're getting on well, I wouldn't worry about it. Zena xx

Thanks for that x
