2nd remission

DianaPrince_ profile image
26 Replies

I finished my 2nd line chemo for my first recurrence a couple of weeks ago. 6 x Carbo + Caelyx.

Had my end-of-treatment MRI on 13th December (a Friday for the superstitious).

Got the results.

And I'm NED.

Again.

I'm on Avastin until there's no oncological benefit (Doctor speak for until cancer comes back). Or I can't take the side effects.

I didn't ask about the prognosis.

But was told there are lots of treatment options if it comes back.

I'm so relieved.

I can't quite let myself believe it right now.

And I'm desperately trying not to think about how long it is until it returns.

That’s such good news just before Christmas too! Well done for completing your 2nd line of chemo 👏🏻

I would be worrying just the same, I worry now about a recurrence but looking at your profile you had 4 years NED the first time so as I understand it that puts you in a good position for a long remission again.

Easier said than done I know, but try not let your remission be overshadowed by what may not even happen in the future, grab every minute and enjoy it! xx Jen

Thanks Jen, it’s actually really hard to post good news. But I know when I was first diagnosed (and even now) I searched this site for stories of hope.

Me too!

When I first got diagnosed I instantly thought I was going to die and soon. The only experience of OC that I’d had was my mum’s and she only lived for 35 days after diagnosis. 😪

So good news needs to keep being posted not only for us but for those who are going to follow us with this disease in the future xx Jen

So happy for you that you are once again NED Diana; you can enjoy Christmas now!

I’m in a similar situation though only had 4 rounds of Taxol/ Carboplatin so far and problems with 4th Carbo. ( May be given Cisplatin or Carbo at lower speed ).

I was almost 5 years clear after first regime and two years of Olaparib.

I completely understand your joy of NED again and the I unknown future.

Hopefully, we’ll both be NED for many more years!

You can do this Denise. You’re over halfway. And there are lots of different chemo combos.

Great news so pleased for you! I’m 2&1/2 yrs NED just gone to 6mth checks. (Stage4b) my onc talks as if I’m cured and I know it’s good to be optimistic but it’s always in back of head, what if and when? Great to know you had 4yrs and treatable 2nd time round. All the best for long remission X Pauline

That’s fantastic news, I think dine out on this news, worry when/if you need to, that’s what I try and do, hard to put it into practice all the time, but I’m learning to. Enjoy your Christmas with this good news. Always good to hear, I spent all my spare time searching for good news stories when I was first diagnosed. Sally xx

What great news! I too am on my first recurrence already received 2 treatments of Carbo/Doxil and Keytruda. Hoping for the same results. My oncologist told me the same thing about other treatments being available. He said there are many tools in the box. Again I am so happy for you and pray you remain NED.

Such great news Diana! You respond to the chemo so that’s a really positive thing, as you say tons of options if it does come back but hopefully that will be many, many years away…live in the moment and toast your good health over Christmas! Xx

So glad to hear your good news. Myself just going to start my 2nd line of chemo. Can you please let me know when you say you are on Avastin now, is it like an IV or tablet?

I was on Olaparib since Nov 23 and finished my 18th Avastin IV Jun 24 but ca125 keep increasing. As soon as I stopped Avastin. Now stoppted Olaparib as my onco said it hasnt work.

Best wishes

just enjoy today for what it is, with a joyful heart. We all live in fear of recurrences, but, most of them can be managed by various therapies. All the best to you.

That’s wonderful news, Diana. What a relief! Long may NED continue for you.

My wife just finished her 2nd line chemo too, on Carbo/Caelyx with addition of Avastin. She moves onto a randomised drug of either the Avastin or Elahere, as she’s part of the Gloriosa trial.

We are hoping for a good result and NED. At the moment it’s heading in the right direction with some shrinkage. Onwards!
