Stage 4 Ovarian cancer and Caelyx

Just coming up to 3 rd chemo with Caelyx after having 6 treatments with Paclitaxel/ Carboplatin.

I’m so tired, worried about losing strength and have a mouth full of ulcers, very hard to eat. Anybody with experience of coping with ulcers?

Hiya - Sorry to hear you are having problems with the chemo- it is tough! I’ve just had one of a course of carbo caelyx and have mouth ulcers too. I find that Anbesol available in gel and liquid soothes them and enables me to eat.

Hope that helps

Jan. Xx

Thank you for that information. I’ve ordered some Anbesol ... let’s hope it does the same for me as it did for you... fingers crossed. X

Hi, Sorry to hear that you are suffering with ulcers as they are really horrible. I asked my Oncologist when I had them, and he prescribed a really strong mouth wash, which cannot be bought over the counter.

I hope you get this cleared up shortly.

Thank you for your interest... we’ve applied for Ambisol from the chemist... hope it does the trick. X

Hi. The mouth ulcers are horrible! I actually found that frequent rinsing with warm salt water helped a lot and maybe limited the length of time the ulcers lasted. Your oncologist might decrease your dose next time if they're really bad. I ate a lot of yogurt and ice cream.

Hi, I did number 3 of caelyx/carboplatin today and I too get the mouth ulcers. Difflam (recommended by my oncologist) works on minor ulcers. But GelClaire (recommended on previous posts and prescribed on request by my GP) is the gold standard. A gel pouch you dissolve in water. It’s brilliant and works pretty much immediately.

Hope this helps you.

X

Thank you for that, I’ve got some Difflam and I’ve ordered some Anbesol. If this doesn’t do the job I’ll ask my GP for some Gelclare.

Caphosal is very good. Only on prescription and Difflam which has another name on prescription. I empathise with you at the moment I’m talking like a ventriloquist and my bottom lip looks as if I’ve had Botox. X

Thank you for that, I’ve got Difflam, normal saline takes some of the sting out, I will try Anbesol and if that fails I’ll ask my GP for some Caphosal/ Gelclare

Hi

Difflam and GelClaire worked for me.

Good luck

My nurse gave me essential oil of oregano. I put one drop in a cup of warm water and swish for 30 seconds several times a day.

Reiki sessions. Homeopathic meds ask your chemist what they have for your protocol. Mouth ulcers are you doing medical mouthwash? Also they have pills if that doesnt work. Eat high lean protein bone broth colorful vegs and fruit pomegranate juice papaya for platelets...fatigue is natural if sleep is hard just rest drift off...stay strong mentally and play games coloring books whatever.

Hi, thanks for your thoughts, I am a Reiki master practitioner so I do use Reiki a lot, I hope you find it useful too. I’m using an antiseptic mouth wash, Difflam rinse, normal saline takes the sting out temporarily and Anbesol gel arriving tomorrow.
