Complex Ovarian Cyst

Hi All,

I wonder if anyone can help me, very confused with what's going on and what to expect.

I had a uterine ablation about 10 years ago after heavy bleeds and it has been wonderful, no bleeding nothing. at Christmas I experience some bleeding which was really unusual, this went on for three months and I booked a smear. Incidentally I had been suffering hip pain for a year and I went to gp to complain about pain and incidentally told him about bleeding.

He packed me off on a Cancer 2 week and old me not to worry. I had a internal scan where they picked up a Complex cyst. The consultant then sent me for a Hystoscopy but the womb was too scarred to get proper biopsy. When I went back to Consultant he said my CA125 levels were high and said I had a choice whether to wait or have a complete hysterectomy. I opted for Hystorectomy as I'm 51 but then he said he wanted to send me for a MRI and for it to go to MDT team. Very confused cancer not stated but I don't really know what to think. MRI was on Saturday so waiting any ideas people???

Hi Nickaz, not sure I am coming to the right conclusions - but it sounds as if the Consultant may suspect cancer from your high CA125 result & wants to get more information from an MRI & then decide on a treatment plan for you at MDT meeting...I hope you get sorted out soon. Linda x

Thanks Linda I suspected the same but he offered me hysterectomy or wait then decided mri it’s all a little disjointed at the moment. That horrible in between stage I guess.

Thank you for coming back to me my friends are not really any good at the moment they are adamant it’s nothing and won’t entertain anything else. I guess I wanted someone else to confirm what I was thinking.

Thank you 😘😘

I agree with Linda but also be aware that a high CA125 can indicate any kind of pelvic inflammation. It’s human nature to fear the worst. We’ve all been there! It’s good the specialist is being proactive. Let us know how you get on and in the meantime, I’m sending you lots of positive vibes and a load of 🌼🌹🌺🌻🌸🌼🌹🌺🌻🌸 to keep you going. Jo x

Hi Nicaz

I’m really sorry that you are in this predicament.

I know that it’s easier said than done , but try to just hang on until your MRI scan is out of the way and you know what you are dealing with. There has been lots of awareness raising recently about ovarian cancer , a good thing, but it’s very concerning for people going through this. They want to know as much as possible before opening you up , which again is in your best interests.

I think that you are doing exactly the right thing opting for full surgery, this will virtually eliminate your risks of Gynae cancers in the future. I was told that I had a complex cyst , which turned out to be a massive fibroid. however my simple cyst was actually a borderline tumour. Once you have the test results press for the surgery as soon as possible to get that that alien ( whatever it is ) out.

Take care of yourself and let us know how you get on xxx

Thank you so much for your support it means a lot whilst I’m sitting here trying to be normal. I think I’m not worrying but not sleeping very well so obviously am. Will let you know how I get on when mri results back. One thing I noticed is people start off a thread but you rarely hear anymore so you never find out how they got on in the end.

Thank you for sparing the time to respond to my worries. I can’t tell you how much it means right now 😘😘

Poor you , this is a horrible time , but like all horrible times will pass. Once you get into the system and concrete things start to happen you will feel a lot better. I was diagnosed nine years ago and am still alive and kicking. You will be too xx

Did you have any of the symptoms they describe? Apart from the bleed and now I know loo frequency that I put down to age, I don’t have any other symptoms and feel quite well apart from a limp which I think is down to a swollen gland in my groin although I can’t feel anything.

I don’t know if it’s denial but I feel quite angry that I didn’t know I was potentially so ill.

Glad you have come out the other side, I lost an old school friend to ovarian cancer as her gp kept brushing her off so although I’m reading it’s rare it seems all too common to me 😘😘

Hi Nickaz

Not at all , in fact I did three forty minute hard workouts in the days before I was diagnosed. I thought that I just had a round tummy ! This shock to the system , which many of us get, is also very hard to come to terms with. Doctors seem to be a lot more proactive now , in the practice I go to any woman with abdominal swelling or bloating gets a test CA125 immediately. It’s so sad to hear that somebody potentially died because she was fobbed off.

Take care xxx

Hi Nickaz, I hope you doing ok with your wait, and send you my best wishes.

I had a big cyst which was removed and biopsied, at the time when it was taken out they thought it was benign but then they saw it was complex with dense bits and unfortunately turned out to be cancer.

However, I seem to be rare, as the vast majority of cysts seem to be benign, so I have everything crossed for you. Literally every appointment I have had since going into treatment, I get told “oh yes, your cyst was the big surprise” , so I am really hoping for you, it will be benign and but I guess when the mri scan comes back they will have a better idea.

Hope you are managing with the wait, plan for the worst but hope for the best!!!! Very best wishes with the results xxx

To have chemo -sorry got cut off there 🤨

Just waiting for the big surgery now, then I think chemo but not confirmed, weirdly feeling ok physically as they have removed cyst and ovary it was attached too, as soon as they did that I felt much better...but of course mentally am wobbling all over the place.....I find so far a lot of my treatment has involved lots of waiting so am expert at it now!

Oh should say also, high ca125 can also be due to cyst, so not 100% sign of oc.

Let us know when you get your mri scan results xxx

Good luck with big operation I’ll be thinking of you and wishing a fast recovery . I wonder why they do a ca125 when it doesn’t actually prove anything either way 😩 maybe I’m not getting it. Will let you know my results when I get them and you let me know when you’ve had your op. Everything crossed for you 😘😘🤞
