I had a post op scan exactly a week ago. I've not yet heard anything. I still have microscopic clusters of cancer cells remaining in me and want to get on with chemo as soon as possible. My surgery was four and a half weeks ago. I'm just worried that these clusters will grow quickly. Xx

Hi Suzanne,
So you are waiting for chemo to restart? Could you ask your CNS or chemo unit to find out when you will go back in?
From a 'reassurance' perspective, I had a 5 week gap from surgery to next round of chemo, and I also had microscopic disease left behind. I was worried that it was party-central inside and it would be a disaster, but it wasn't. I still got to NED by the end of chemo. What I will say is that I found the post-op chemos harder than the ones before, and I sometimes wonder if that was because there was less cancer for it to attack!
Hi
Yes am waiting for chemo to restart. I just want to get on with it.
I was thinking that the second round of chemos are harder as I've heard that before.
I hope you are ok xxx
I think no harm to ring your oncology unit, usually they wait for about six weeks post surgery but its no harm to give them a ring to remind them you exist in case your file got mislaid.
I was 4 weeks after surgery before chemo started again. Do you have an appointment with your oncologist scheduled?? If not give them a call. My oncologist gave me my ct results too. Big hugs. Xx
Hi
I was around 6 weeks between surgery and chemo starting - they told me they have to allow you time to recover from the op as once chemo starts you effectively stop healing. (I also had cells in my abdominal washings) I had weekly carbo/taxol for 12 sessions (finished in May)
Good luck π
Hi.
Thank you for your reply.
I hope to hear soon. It will be six weeks next week post op so hopefully chemo will begin again then.
I'm thinking I will have three chemos over nine weeks as I did pre op. Will see what consultant says. When I get to see him.
Take care. Xxxxx
Hi Aniram
Just interested that you mentioned abdominal washings. When I asked at my meeting with the oncologist the CNS said we don't do that any more as we felt it did not help. I was surprised at this. Can I ask what part of the country you are in. It is worrying that there are different procedures in place in different areas. They cannot all be right. Makes you wonder whether the cost of the procedure comes into it.
Fay
Hi Fay,
I'm in Devon. I have seen wide variances in treatment - it does seem to be down to the individual oncologist I do think there is probably a cost implication but I also think that because the causes of cancer aren't yet known, they can't 100% treat them with accuracy - sometimes the treatment is effective, sometimes not so much. It all seems to be a bit of a lottery doesn't it?
Hi hun - have you heard anything? Or did you perhaps call to chase your results up? Fingers crossed it's positive and that's why you perhaps haven't heard anything sooner xx
Hi.
I called the CNS. She said she will phone me back later and try and get me into this Friday's clinic so that I can start chemo next Thursday.
If she doesn't ring back today like she said then I will phone her in the morning. ππ»ππ»ππ»
Hope you are ok. Xxx
Fingers crossed Hun xx
They've just phoned. I go Friday to the clinic and will have chemo next Thursday. ππ»ππ»ππ»Xxx
I had my TAH before my chemo and I had a lot of microscopic cancer cells in the pelvic wash. I had to wait to start chemo until I healed a bit. Chemo kills fast dividing cells so it really fights your body from healing. The wait is good.
I finished 6 rounds of chemo in 20 weeks, some delays due to low blood counts. I am currently NED so relax and recover. Chemo will come. Xx Carol
