I know this is a bit of topic but I had a breast manogram 2 days ago and it was clear but she said my breasts were very dense so she did an ultrasound and picked up a shadow and said she wanted to take a biopsy. So I had it done which was terrifying and then she said shadows can be worrysome. But after doing it she said personally I don’t think there is anything going on but we have to be sure and rule anything out . I’m in a rite state here it’s making me ill waiting . Please if anyone has experienced this can u help me as I’m on my own and don’t know where to turn 😢

Hi Liza,

I’m not sure how old you are, but younger women typically have more dense breast tissue, which does make mammograms harder. I found a lump in my boob when I was about 18, and had a biopsy and it came back clear - just a benign cyst. It’s never changed or troubled me since. Hope that your results come back clear too.

No, of course. A ‘shadow’ could be tissue of a different nature to the rest around it, so it could include a lump that can’t be felt for example. In my case, the lump was right at the surface so I could feel it. I was only trying to reassure you, not worry you.

Hi Liza. 3 months after my cancer diagnosis, I insisted on having a mammogram (at age 46). Normally they would not offer this type of scan until at least age 47, better 50, due to the dense breast tissue in younger women easily being confused with a real problem area.

As with you, they found some dense shadow/tissue too. And as you said.. that was truly terrifying. However, a fine needle biopsy suggested it was just a harmless liquid filled cyst. So it was drained, and that was it.

Hope yours is not causing trouble either. Maus

Yes but I had a biopsy and have no cyst she just took the skin and I’m waiting for results which I’ve been told can take up to 2 weeks . This is why I’m worried as she was adamant that I have no lumps etc

Still crossing fingers that it's nothing to worry about. You will make it through those two weeks, Liz, although the waiting is really tough. xx. Maus
