Rotten damn luck.

ust a quick rant, I know no one can make it alright... You may remember that my mum has a secondary tumour in her small intestine which recently caused a blockage she was told to go away and decide whether to have a 3rd round of chemo Paclitaxel and Carboplatin once a week for 18 weeks. Shortly after that she was recalled for an MRI so has put off making any decision until she has spoken to her consultant about the results of the scan. In the meantime she felt that it would be a good opportunity to come and visit my brother and I in Scotland. They broke the journey with an overnight stop which wasn't great, neither of them got much sleep so were very tired when they arrived at their house but now she has stomach pain again and has been sick twice! She hasn't made it over town to see us yet although the kids have been to see her. I can't believe what bad luck it is. Our attitude was get out there and do everything you want to do and make every day count but it seems that she might be too ill to do that and she might be better off at home. I feel so guilty running around keeping to our usual routine, which is what she keeps saying she wants us to do, when she's is so ill. All I can do is pray for a positive MRI result and successful 3rd round treatment x

Thoughts are with you. It's so difficult to know what to do for the best. I don't have any knowledge of bowel obstruction , but if you think it's that I'm sure some ladies on here can respond to you. I wonder whether she needs medical treatment if it is this (I absolutely don't know, so not trying to imply she does). If she does is there a decent hospital near you ? It might be an opportunity for you to look after both your parents on your home turf..... On the positive side, I hope she feels much better today and it doesn't recur

Yes meboo a good local health centre and hospital. I am going to try and make some clear soup for her later and take it round and if she is still sick later today I will suggest a phone call. I think she feels she may have taken too many movicol, she's still going to the loo but I'm not sure that that in itself is an indicator that all is still ok. X

From a non expert opinion, I'd think that going to the loo is a good sign. I hope she settles & you can put it down to a bad day & long, uncomfortable journey x

Fingers crossed for positive scanote results xx more of a worry for loved ones sometimes than the patient themselves. You take care too x

It sounds as if your mum is going through a tough time wishing you lots of positive vibes and prayers for results xx

Hi there .. If your mum is now being sick as well as having pain, I think she needs to see a doctor straight away.

I've had a number of blockages in the small intestine and I know it requires management by the professionals.

Your mum might benefit from a pain management routine in the future. I got that eventually after having opiate patches from my doctor and having a sensible plan I could cope with turned my life around. Xxx

She says she's not in any pain Tina and is putting it down to the stress of the journey, so she wants to wait and see if the sickness goes away, if it doesn't she will talk to the doc. They have talked to her about opiate patches recently and I think this is something i'm going to suggest she takes up if treatment doesn't start soon and begin to ease things. X

Well the opiates may make your Mum more constipated so its a hard one to be honest. I think from what I have read here that the nausea occurs when your tummy is choked up so if your Mum is going to the loo then she should begin to feel a bit better. It is probably the journey and worry about actually making it. I think it would be good for her to see a doctor while she is staying with the family. Sometimes a different doctor might just sort your Mum out for a while. It is certainly worth a try.

I would echo the above,if she gets treatment near you that works, she is near for you to visit and you will worry less
