Whilst undergoing my first line chemo, I sadly lost my mum. She was almost 98 and had had a wonderful life, it was breaking her heart to see me suffering so I'm glad she is at peace now and out of pain. Anyhow, when sorting through her possessions, I came across her sewing machine which she had always said I could have.
I had never used a sewing machine since I was at school and not very successfully then! Anyway to move on with the story, in January of last year I was a bit of a wreck and went to our local McMillan centre for help. I joined a HOPE course which was being run by them, there were 7 of us.
When the course finished, we formed our own HOPE supper club and once a month we meet and either go out to eat or to someone's house. They have been lovely friends and a real support to me, so I decided to make them each of them a little gift for Xmas on my sewing machine. See pics. They are little make up/toilet bags and I've put a little gift in each. I hope they like them and I'm sure my mum would be thrilled with the use her sewing machine is getting and the pleasure it's given to me and to those I've made things for x x x How life changes!!

Hi Diane, what a lovely post & you’ve been so creative, which is very therapeutic isn’t it? Yes life certainly changes with illness but we keep up the HOPE and press on 🌺🌼🌸 with the help of others, like your group.
That’s so nice, isn’t it funny where this disease takes us. I’m glad you’ve made some new friends and that you all are able to support each other and have a lovely friendship too. The bags are lovely, well done I’m sure your friends will be thrilled, I love homemade gifts because somebody has taken the time to make something just for you. Well done lovely ❤️Xx Jane
That’s so lovely. And it’s great when doing something nice for others also benefits our well being too - your mum would be pleased to see her machine in use x
Oh that is wonderful- and your mum would have been delighted.
How lovely to inherit your Mum’s sewing machine, all those wonderful memories. Can just imagine her pleasure knowing that you are also giving so much pleasure to others.
