Gastritis auto-immune??

Hi, I'm not sure I'm posing this question to the correct group?? I have Hypothyroidism, mild Sjogrens & have also just had gastroscopy confirming gastritis. Im not sure if the gastritis us autoimmune related or not. Hpylori negative apparently. Was low in Vit D as get skin rashes after sun exposure so use sun screen constantly. B12 was ok but not optimal (all results as per photo). Feel like I'm going downhill & don't know which consultant should be managing me as have GI, Dermatology & Rheumatology involved - GP only for thyroid, but feel like the main culprit e.g. autoimmune disease is not being managed collectively & properly. GI consultant didn't do any acid tests to decipher if low or high (suspect low) but gave me omeprazole anyway which I believe will cause me more probs if acid is actually low. Have no idea where to go with this - GP just doing what GI consultant advised. Any suggestions/advice welcome??

H Pylori neg- good.

GI consultant confirmed Gastritis. Is this your only diagnosis to date? If so why mention of auto-immune? Meaning any reason for you to believe if GI consultant has not stated so in the report. You can always ask your GP (assuming you in the UK) for a copy of the Gastroscopy result and letter from the GI Consultant to the GP.

Vit D issue, have you tried anything non prescription to soother the skin but letting absorb d from sunlight? If natural intake is an issue you can always consume additional vitamin D with calcium. (mind constipation with this combination so add additonal Iron or laxative fibers)

Its standard protocol to offer PPI (prezole group) to terat Gastritis, (good news is no h pylori so no need for antibiotic treatment). Have you been provided with lifestyle management to reduce the pain and heal the Gastritis? If not try reading upon opa.org.uk for acid reflux daily management.

Remember if too much acd suppression post healing of the Gastritis inflammation, the side issue of developing bacterial infections in the gut due to "low acid strength". chicken and egg situation between Gastirits and otherwise.

If you have pain due to Gastritis means your stomach has acid and you feel the pain. pH easurement is not normal practice for Gastritis. As pain itself is an indicator that the acid is present and burning on the tissue causing inflammation.

Try and relax mind to balance the body chemicals. Anxiety or excess stress is harmful trigger for Gastritis or GI related issues. My view.

Interesting that you say if you experience pain aka there is acid in stomach. I’m taking ppi because I’ve tried everything and all tests results confirm it’s not reflux but anxiety route course. I have all the symptoms of Gord sufferer. I’ve got a week left of ppi and won’t take it again. I’m giving it 5 weeks because last year since I was diagnosed with h plyori I couldn’t tolerate nothing not even ppi or supplements. For me to still be on ppi means something. I’m currently trying siligel. Not bad going 👍🏼

"Interesting that you say if you experience pain aka there is acid in stomach. "this is when you have gastritis inflammation/s within your stomach/smaller intestine. Meaning if the tissue inflammed it will give you intolerable pain due to acid burning the stomach tissue!

PPI's take some time to dose up or down. abrupt stoppage will cause more symptoms and or pains.

if GI team confirms the GORD symptoms but cant find clinical positive diagnosis, meaning your body not able to replicate the symptoms during the tests. its False Negative in clinical terms. Now one of the possibilities of this is due to psychological induced triggers such as anxiety, stress et al.

H pyolri could return as well if gut immunity compromised. SO that needs to be ruled out as well.

Yes of course inflammation! I do know for certain my stomach is both sensitive and inflamed, well symptoms say it is but clinically I’m fine. I’ve recently had endoscopy and seems fine. How would I know if my gut is still comprised? Prob from my symptoms. Acid and IBS symptoms still there but many have said takes a very long time to heal.

tissue healing withn the stomach internals takes a long time due to obvious nature of the organ. You cant stop eating or drinking an dfor that matter acid production also keeps going on. medicinal intervention in this natural process disrupts the digestion and can take a long time for body to naturally take over an dbring back to normal, provided that the root cause issues were treated completely. if any of the symptoms persist then issue still exit. kind of chikcne and egg cycle.

try probiotic if ok for yourself. that helps improve the good gut bacteria count.

Hello, yes probiotics is a good idea for IBS - I’ve tried many probiotics. What I found was accruing problem with anything, but 8 months down the line I’m able to take lansoprazole, etc. I’m going to try probiotics again and see if it will help in any way. I’m taking siliogel which is not bad. I can’t work out if it’s anxiety related or just cause if HP, the latter could be just a coincident? It can be caused by stress. Doctors have said they have all done what is needed and all is clear including my recent blood tests, and endoscopy. So it boils down to anxiety?! It all happened when I list my father. Rubbish situation really.

Can always ask for HP test, its so simple to rule out. then if symptoms persist then you can use elimination method to rule out triggers.

I had an endoscopy in January. Possibly with eliminating triggers though I’m following fodmap diet and am extremely careful with what I eat and drink including supplements. Seems stomach is just very sensitive and is affected by everything even water. Takes a year or so to recover but as I’ve said, can’t say for sure if it was down to HP or from anxiety? Functional heartburn is what doc have suggested since results are good so far.
