Gastritis diagnosis advice

I have been diagnosed with gastritis after a 5 day course of naproxen....which I finished a week ago...but this has only just become an issue.I've got to take omeprazole for 2 weeks.

I have terrible tummy pains, gurgling and chest pains. It's affecting my breathing too. I also coughed up a few drops of blood this morning.

I think omeprazole take a couple days to kick in, so has anyone got any advice on how to ease symptoms in the meantime?

It might be worth trying Gaviscon Advance or Double Action, several times a day (especially just before bed) for a few days until the Omeprazole starts to build up. Hope you feel better soon.

Can you use other antacids whilst on omeprazole then? I've got some milk of magnesia at home...but not sure it really helps

Yes, I have been on Omeprazole for years, and take Gaviscon every night. You just have to leave a two hour gap after the Omeprazole.

Gosh you must really suffer with it then. I'll have to get some gaviscon and see if it helps.

Hi does your doctor know you've coughed up blood? If not I would tell him/her.

Yes....he didn't seem concerned. My throat was really itchy just before coughing the few drops up. Last night, it was itchy again, and I did a hard cough and brought 1 drop up.
