hi everyone. I had an endoscopy in November reveals mild gastritis and duodenitus was told to take omeprazole twice a day. Fast forward to now been back to the doctor, reflux is horrendous burning throat feels like swallowed razor blades. Dr switches me to empezrapole made no difference still got throat on fire can anyone recommend anything? Am going to see a private gastroenterologist also as feel like I’m fobbed off by GP thank you xx

You could try Gaviscon Advance. Also worth reading Dr.Jamie Kaufman's book Acid Reflux Diet. Changing to an alkaline diet helped me.

Hi, have you tried all the acid suppressing tips throughout the posts like sleeping with bed head raised, not eating 4 hours prior to bed, diet changes etc?

With the PPIs I’ve read they only actually help 1 in 4 people they are prescribed for and they are well over prescribed. Then when you try to come off you get rebound reflux 🙄 Sometimes you need to try a few different PPIs to find one that works , h2 antagonists can work too and they dont have the same side effects as the PPis, but they are hard to get sometimes with bad supply issues here in Australia.

Along with everything else under the sun I’ve tried, Gaviscon Extra Strength is something I cannot go without, last thing at night with nothing at all after it and sometimes through the night and after meals if the acid is particularly bad.

I’m under a Gastroenterologist my treatment plan is Nizatidine 20mg at night, esomeprazole 1-2 daily and Gaviscon Extra Strength prn. Along with all the other tips and tricks as mentioned.

It’s sometimes really hard to get on top of it and extremely stressful which makes the acid worse too. Feeling that someone is listening and taking you seriously is a major benefit, you come to learn the triggers and know when it’s starting up to prevent a big flare up. It’s a life changing condition that’s for sure, hope you get in top of it soon.

thanks both I’m on gaviscon advance already, I’m wondering if some of it is anxiety too as I did take citralipram but stopped because it’s said the ppis could affect it? I’m goi f to try a low acid diet too to see if that helps off to the library shortly to collect a book and make a meal plan. Throat not as bad this morning but pain in my stomach feels every day like I’ve been kicked 😭 hope you’re ok x

I think different things can work for different people. For me personally omeprazole helps. Losing weight helped as well and exercise. Plus my triggers are bread, pastry, fizzy drinks, coffee. Foods that helped me were live yoghurt, camomile tea, liquorice occasionally. Anxiety makes it worse. GPs are not knowledgeable generally about this condition so when you get to see the specialist that will be much more productive.

Hi Katiec20,

I have Barrett’s disease and get a lot of acid which burns and regurgitates but I was out on lansoprazole which did seem to help 30mg in morning and 30mg at night, may be this might help and I don’t get any side affects and it certainly doesn’t make it any worse.

Have you tried Slippery Elm? It's a natural remedy...it has been a game changer for me. I also changed my diet for well over a year to non acid foods which helped..but gradually reintroducing foods now.
