Hi Sarah

Different local authorities award them in different ways, so probably the best thing to do is look on their website and see what you need to do. I think if you already get DLA it helps to qualify for a blue badge, but there may be other ways to meet the requirements.

I hope that helps - good luck.

DLA mobility definitely makes you eligible for one, but as Dotty has said, every council awards them in different ways so thats not the only way. Just phone your local council and ask them to send you out a form. Some areas still just ask for a doctors confirmation of need, some have a slightly longer form to fill in, and some in Scotland have moved to a 23 page form that has similar kinds of questions on to the DLA form and is much more of a nightmare to fill out. If you have any problems with it, definitely go see your local CAB disability welfare officer.

Go onto the internet and put in blue badge and put your area in as well and you will get all you need to know.xxx

You need to contact your council for a form....then the easiest way is to get your Rheumy team to sign all documents needed.

Hi Sarah I have a blue badge I got mine automatically as I am on the higher rate of mobility in the DLA so if you have the same you can have one.

In our area also if on high rate mobility DLA you automatically qualify. But you can also apply under discresconary app. I have just done this and had to go for a mobility assessment. I went 4 days ago for the assessment and received my blue badge today.. Just google blue badge and you area it will come up. If you can't find it let me know and I will send you the link. Sue

I applied online, and recently received my Blue Badge. You will need to send off a photograph and the fee (which is going up from £2 to £10 from the 1st of April). They will contact your G.P. and if he (she) gives a favourable report, you will receive a Blue Badge in abut two weeks.

Hi, having higher rate mobility DLA did NOT automatically qualify me for a blue badge and I was told it is was very very hard to get one in my area and it is, but I did manage it. I wouldn't have given up on it either as I really really do need one. I was and am adamant about it. I am not sure of changes in how to apply since 2010.
