Hi all. Is anyone on Amgevita Biologics. I am meant to be starting this on Monday after a delay from the nurse. Stopped methotrexate in October. Obviously have flare ups due to it withdrawing from my system. Apparently she will come and assess me to make sure I am well enough to start. Watch me inject and spend 30 minutes after. Is this normal. Am I likely to expect side effects. Very nervous about this treatment.
Amgevita : Hi all. Is anyone on Amgevita Biologics. I... - NRAS
Amgevita

There is absolutely nothing to worry about. The nurse is just in case there is a reaction, which is very unlikely. She or he will monitor you for any signs of a reaction and they carry epi pens to counteract it if there is. I was worried with my 1st injection but it was all good, and we spend half an hour drinking tea . I am frightened of needles but I don't blink injecting myself now. ( I inject mtx as well!)
You will be just fine. If you need to moan, vent, scream or anything else just post on here. They are all a brilliant bunch and there is always someone around to listen. ( just don't mention Tunnocks Teacakes ) 😂😂
Good luck, not that you will need it, oh and take the injection out of the fridge for a good hour to let it warm to room temperature, It can sting slightly if its too cold x
Nothing to worry about, this is standard practice. It’s in case you have a reaction, which is very rare, but t by et need to be prepared. I’m surprised they’ve stoped your MTX. I was told to continue, as the biologics take 3-6 months to become effective. In fact when I stopped I had an increase in pains, so I continue to take both.
As Bootoo says take the injection out of the fridge a good hour before. I find injecting in the stomach a lot less painful than the leg. I’m sure everything will go well, so don’t worry 🤗
I had 2 home visits from nurse when I first went on amgevita. The injection is very easy to use and works very well for me. I’ve never had any side effects. I am still on methotrexate, but they are now starting to reduce the dose. Hope it works well for you!
Hi
I’ve been injecting Amgevita and methotrexate for 4-5 years now and its been a real game changer for me. Other than getting tired more easily I’m virtually back to my old self … no pains or flare ups at all since starting Amgevita… and no side effects. The process they’ve described for your first injection is just standard practice and nothing to worry about. Definitely agree that you take the injection out of the fridge at least half an hour before you inject or it may sting a little and I prefer to inject into my tummy because it’s less sensitive. Good luck 🤞
hello I am new here just had my 3rd injection, was frightened at 1st at having to do it, but managed it ok, am 83 so all new to me, Elsie
Thank you all for the reassurance. I chose to stop the methotrexate injection as it was causing my Hernia and relux to flare up. Hated being on it. Didn't feel it was working much. As we all hate new medication I will try and be positive. 🙂
I had a good 10 years on Humira/ changing to Amgivita. Medication delivered to house, no nurse visit, just told over the phone to inject it slowly and leave it out for a few minutes to gently take the nip out of the temperature. Absolutely no issues at all with it. It was a super medication for me and worked really well, quite quickly. Changed recently due to it no longer working, but had a good run. Try not to worry, change is always unsettling. I hope it works well for you 😃
