can anyone please clarify what foods to avoid on this bio similar drug Amgevita as I’ve had mixed instructions from Rheumy? Especially eating out and dishes with cheese in how do you know if it’s pasteurised or is it important? Mayonnaise, ice cream, crème fraiche, yoghurt. I am on holiday and it’s frustrating! I also take 25 mg methotrexate.
you’re all more knowledgable on this site. Thanks

it is very much an individual thing, as if you are not over 75 and in reasonable health the concern is much less. The risk is of infections like listeria and e.coli.
My (french) rheumy tells me that the most important is food hygiene. She tells me to avoid open buffets, snacks from market stalls that have been hanging around a while unless to be recooked properly , that sort of thing . Plus good hygiene in the kitchen
But unpasteurised cheese from a good supplier, raw eggs, soft pâté, don’t bother her a whit.
The last major outbreak of e.coli here was down to cucumbers!
Hi thank you for the quick response. I’m 68 and fairly healthy apart from AS and RA. The egg thing was an issue too I had forgotten that so good to hear it’s perhaps not so vital. I assume the e-coli in the cucumbers was due to not being washed before eating? But I guess that’s a risk when eating out too. Hopefully panicking for nothing.
Be sensible …. If you are in a country where salmonella is rife in eggs (Slovakia, Spain and Poland) then avoid raw ones. But follow your instincts - undercooked pork and chicken are just as likely to cause you get salmonella. So think before you eat.
Tbh I have never heard of anyone getting anything worse than an upset tummy from those foods. There are infrequent media stories of outbreaks of Ecoli etc, , but they are usually traced back to food handing & hygiene in the food preparation.
Maybe that could be one good thing that came out of Covid ….people are washing their hands a lot more?
I think the advice you are being given is extremely cautious and I can understand why it might make you feel anxious. I’ve never been told by my Rheumy to avoid certain foods but do take a sensible approach to hygiene when it’s food that’s been prepared by someone else. But I always have done, even pre RA. If it doesn’t look right, I don’t chance it. Maybe I’m pushing my luck 🤷♀️ but no foods are off limits to me.
Consultants advice varies greatly, some here on the website have been advised not to drink alcohol at all (particularly if taking methotrexate). Luckily mine is of the opinion that an occasional drink won’t hurt you but keep to within national drinking guidelines. But they do run blood tests on me regularly so I’ll feel confident that if my lifestyle was becoming an issue it would show up on my test results that include liver function.
As others have said here, just take a sensible approach and try not to worry. Good luck 👍
Think its important that its pasteurised but I just got told stay away from pate and cream cheese ! Did read the pamphlet also. Do you feel any benefit yet on this injection? I am on 3rd one and feel less tired and hands better, knees and shoulders not yet . I also take methotrexate x
Hi glad you seem to be having a positive response to Angelita. I can’t say any difference as yet but only had one injection so far but feeling hopeful.
