hi the hospital/rheumatologist has decided to put me on Adlimumab biological alongside my methoject 25 mil. I have had a call from Sciensus who will deliver the medication every 8 weeks and the prescription says Amgevita which on Googling is a bio similar. Is this what usually happens?
amgevita: hi the hospital/rheumatologist has decided to... - NRAS
amgevita
Hi
I was also prescribed Adalimumab and have Amgevita delivered by Sciensus. I am on Metoject and Sulfasalazine as well. Amgevita has been amazing for me , I noticed a difference after a couple of months and I now have a relatively normal life. I hope that it works for you
Hello, amgevita has been a complete game changer for my RA. I’m now pretty much symptom free. The delivery of your medication sounds similar to mine. Hope your new drug works for you.
thanks. I need some respite so great you have had a benefit from Amgevita. My main question was rheumatosaid Adlimumab but having Amgevita. Not sure how that has got changed. Looks like Angevita is a biosimilar.
Hello again, I think amgevita and adalimumab are the same drug, amgevita is the ‘brand’ name.
hi Katie-Mag I googled the two and it said Adlimumab was a biological and Amgevita was a bio similar. It seems biosimilars are cheaper to manufacture but not sure whic is more effective?
That’s interesting. I don’t know the answer to your question but maybe go with your rheumatologists suggestion. Hope it works.
A biosimilar is sort of like a generic drug (ibuprofen’s original brand was neurofen but now you can get generic brands too such as cuprofen and even supermarket own brands), it’s not exactly the same because biologics are proteins so they can’t make them exactly the same but the active part of the protein will be the same.
To be called a biosimilar they have to show in tests that they have exactly the same effectiveness as the original. Interestingly even if they are more effective they can’t be called a biosimilar and have to be registered as a new drug.
Hi.
Same here for me. Amgevita delivered by Sciensus every 8 weeks (4 injections at a time). I’m also on methotrexate and hydroxychloroquin. I felt improvements with Amgevita only days after taking the first dose almost 3 years ago and recently have been able to halve my methotrexate dose and still maintain with no flares during that time.
Hope it works well for you but if not don’t get despondent, because there are lots of other RA biologic drugs to try now. Good luck 👍
