Had my 1st dose of shingrix on the 11th of this month, 8 days later I get shingles!! what the 😡Got antivirals from the pharmacist yesterday but I am in a lot of pain and feeling very sorry for myself 😷
Anyone else had this as I thought this chuffing jab was to keep me safe... or is that if you manage to escape the virus till you get the 2nd one.
I just really need to have a rant, rant over. 👍
PS will I still be able to get my 2nd dose in December? oh and does anyone know if I should stop my MTX , I've rung rheumy but they haven't got back to me as yet!
Thanks in advance if anyone has any sympathy or advise ❤️

Yes and the vaccine is only 74% effective. I got it after the second jab and back to antivirals. They do work well though. I don't know about MTX but was told carry on with Etanercept so I think you need to talk to GP or RA team about that. If it helps the bout didn't last as long as it did before the vaccine. Try Deep Freeze on the area once the blisters have healed as that really helped and don't forget paracetamol need to be taken regularly or better yet ask your GP about Pregabalin if the pain continues. Get well soon. xxPS Ive had 3 bouts after the second jab now but its not that painful now although I still get pins and needles down my leg.
Thank you for your reply, I'm a total softy when it comes to pain. You would think we'd be immune to pain with RA. I'm just feeling sorry for myself ❤️
And there's nothing wrong with that. I spent a few days in hospital with Shingles a few years ago it's no joke. I do find however fudge and TV control did help. lol xx
Ah thank you, it is very painful. Hopefully the antivirals kick in soon and I've an abundance of pain killers. I just wanted a little rant. Kettles on and chocolate is at the ready ❤️
I've had shingles twice - on my face and eye. I did stop Mtx while having anti virals. Keep going with the remote and cake 🎂. Hope it eases soon. Every good wish to you.
Hi Boohoo,I hope you get over the shingles soon, what bad luck getting them just after the 1st Shingrix.
I have been told by rheumatology to stop methotrexate for 2 weeks after any vaccine so have just restarted after 1st Shingrix on 3rd Oct.
I had a fairly nasty reaction to Shingrix, felt ill for a few days and arm very painful, hot and swollen for over a week.
I have covid and Flu vaccines booked for mid November so another 2 weeks off mtx.
2nd Shingrix initially booked for the end of November but I've cancelled it and plan to wait until after New Year to get it. Otherwise I'd be off mtx for 6 weeks out of 3 months!
hi hope you feel better soon.I had shingles a few months ago, which I understand is a possible side effect of filgotinib, and it was not nice.Got antivirals on first day,my neighbour doused my rash on my back twice a day with calamine lotion, and took paracetamol daily. It lasted about a week, but have no post herpatic pain at all, which the antivirals had a lot to do with probably.I did what others said, watched t.v.,ate what I fancied, read on my kindle, and treated it like a week of lockdown. My son left shopping on the doorstep, and did lots of FaceTiming.I had to stop my ra meds for the 7 days, but as I was resting etc did not have a flare.I had had the shingles jab according to my records a few years ago,but don’t remember having it!Anyway, look after yourself, and it will pass quickly I hope xx
p.s. asked if I could have shingrix jab when better and told no !
Thank you, I'm definitely taking the week off 👍 I live on my own so there's not a lot to do. I can't believe how tired it's making me so I'll just sit and eat cake 😂
Oh please don't let this put you off, make sure you get yours. I'm actually feeling a tad better so I think the antivirals are doing their job. Thank you for the hug ❤️
When on biologics you can only have a shingles jab if it is the non live vaccine (which is available now). Perhaps because you now have shingles you were given the live one.
