Hi everyone, just had second shingles vaccine and suddenly thought should I stop taking methotrexate this week also on sulfasalazine as is recommended after covid jab, I didn't stop taking meds after the first shingles jab,it just didn't even enter my head, think I'm losing it 😅 wishing you all as much good health as possible 😊

I was told I didn't need to stop MTX after my first shingles vaccination. But best to check with your GP.

OK thanks for your reply I'll do that, by the way did you have any reaction to the vaccine it's put me in bed for a couple of days, it's like I've got flu

I had the shingles and pneumonia vaccinations at the same time and I did feel a bit unwell for a few days. It didn't stop me working but I would say very mild flu symptoms.

I also had really painful arms afterwards but not unexpected, just worse than I've had with other vaccinations.

And I've had nerve pain in my left arm since the vaccine but that could be coincidence or unrelated to the vaccine. Possibly a neck issue. I'm seeing an osteopath today about that.

Hope that helps.

Seb.

I just had my second Shingrix jab. Didn't stop MTX. I was told there's no need to stop. First and second jab gave me bad flu symptoms though.

Your GP wil know you are on Methotrexate so there is no need to stop taking it, as the shingles vaccines available are not live vaccines. I was on methotrexate but came off it last March due to it causing damage to my liver. I'm hoping to go on Sulfasazaline which seems to have fewer side effects when I have my next review in March.

hi Jeremycfc, I didn’t stop taking Methotrexate with Shingles jabs and had no reaction from them either.

Thanks Colin, feeling better now, it seems some people have a bad reaction while others don't, back on methotrexate tonight, onwards and upwards, all the best Jeremy
