I had a very bad bout of shingles three years ago. Yesterday my doctors surgery rang to say I qualified for a jab! I tried to ask if it was worthwhile for someone who had already had shingles and was told she was the receptionist! Fair enough but then you can’t speak to a medic anymore Any thoughts you knowledgeable people? Thanks in advance.
shingles jab anyone?: I had a very bad bout of shingles... - NRAS
shingles jab anyone?
Had facial shingles in 2019. Had both Shingrix jabs recently. Not taking any chances.
I had shingles late 90’s round my ribcage and back. Most painful and unpleasant illness as you know. Like madmusiclover I’ve had all the jabs offered against it happening again and not taking any chances either.
I have been offered it are they any side effects so I can plan date
Second one made me tired for 24 hours. Usual sore arm. That’s it.
Yes it is but it's only 70% effective. I had Shingles so bad I got admitted to hospital a few years ago It was dreadful and then on Acyclovir for years. Then had both jabs got another bout of the Shingles following year and despite having the vaccine its back on the Acyclovir. Shingrex hurts like hell and make sure both doses are recorded as our GP's computer said I'd only had one because it's not programmed to record two. They changed that but it's still worth asking your practice to record properly.
My RA nurse recommended I had the vaccine even tho I’ve had shingles. She explained you can get it more than once so worth having
Hi, I’ve had shingles and the pain is horrible. I had my 2nd shingle jab yesterday, no side effects parts from a bit of a sore arm. I defo get the jab.
I don't believe having shingles gives you immunity and have heard of people having it more than once.
Sorry I can’t help but Following as I have not had mine yet despite being eligible for a long time I believe . My GP keeps telling me I’m not eligible as I’m not on Methotrexate. But I’m 69 & been on Biologics for 21 years. I wonder if you can get them privately.
Hello you are eligible at 65 now and your GP should be contacting you to have one. I know there is a "shortage" but go after them for it. They miraculously find it if you make it a fuss 🤔
I had shingles 3 years ago , very painful , I had antivirals which did help with no long term nerve damage. I have had both shingrix jabs about 8 weeks apart. Only after effects were sore arm for about a week .
Hi,I had my first jab at the beginning of the year and had a bit of a scare recently where I had to have emergency tests. I was lucky as had enough antibodies to fight it.
After this scare I wouldn't risk shingles again it's a nasty thing to recover from and if you are on MX it can be very dangerous. I'd take it but check which one you are getting. If you are immunosurpressed you need the inactive one which I believe is Shingrix
Good luck
I’d have the vaccine. Make sure they give you the non live vaccine and it’s given as 2 injections about 6-8 wks apart x
I haven’t been able to access it in Scotland. I’m 66 and severely immunosuppressed. When I phone I’m told I’m not eligible until I’m 70.
Not true, you are definitely eligible in Scotland, as immunosuppressed after 50, normal people now eligible from their 65th birthday. There are even TV adverts telli g you!!
I had shingles late last year (over half of my head) it took many weeks for it to clear and was the most awful thing I have experienced. The nerve pain was horrendous.
I’ve had the first of two vaccines (second one due later in the year) I felt poorly for a few days after the first vaccine but it’s nothing compared to actually having shingles.
Good luck.
Hi Green230461, I had the shingles jabs (Shingrix) last year when I changed from Kevzara to Rinvoq. They recommended it because I had shingles in 2018 while I was on Olumiant. Luckily, I had a very mild case then but I know it can be very serious so I was happy to get the jabs. I didn't get side effects from the first jab, after the second one I had a bit of fever and chills and a headache but that only lasted 24h. Good luck!! All the best, Christine
I ended up in hospital with vestibular neuronitis lost all balance and spent eight months feeling as though I was on a boat absolutely horrible. They thought I had had a stroke. All okay now but never returned to work took early retirement instead all because of shingles!
