Flu jab

Well I went into the chemist to get my prescription and she said am I booked in for a flu jab and I said yes, later this month and the chemist said I could do it now if you like? So I said ok! My doctors has not contacted me about the flu shot this year or last year. Last year when I went to ask about it I was told if they had enough I could maybe get a shot late in November. But my chemist said I would get it a good few months earlier. Now my partner is with the same doctors as me and he booked the chemist for a shot, the doctors rang him up to book with them and when he said he is going to the chemist they said you should come to us as it's all about funding! But they were not interested in me going there! Weird, as I have been with these doctors for over 35 years and he has only been there a few years. Anyway I hope everyone is keeping well on this lovely day, sorry about the length of this post. Take care x

I spoke to the dreaded receptionist when I phoned about getting the Influenza vaccination in November & told her I would book it at Boots, when they couldn’t offer November dates , & she sounded almost relieved I wouldn’t ask again.

I think we should just go where It is most convenient & available for each of us.

I had mine yesterday and still have a headache and now a bit of a fuzzy ache all over. Still better than the flu. x At GP's whose called in all shielded people and their partners and anyone they live with. Husband tomorrow as he couldn't do yesterday and clinic on Saturday as trying to get all done before October. What do they know we don't yet?

Your GPs better than mine. Letters won’t be going out until October then it is done alphabetically no matter the criteria in a church hall every 2 weeks normally finishes in December. Bad luck if your surname begins with Z.

That's bad I got a text last Friday and it was also confirmed by text to wear loose clothing, etc and will be met at door. It was less than 5 minutes from arriving to getting back in the car. Never touched anything and less risk I suppose. Still got a headache though ! This year must be a vicious concoction as don't usually. Still I've laid on the sofa most of the day and caught up on The Sinner on Netflix.

I have had a headache the last 2 days, I had forgotten it could maybe with the flu jab. One of my headaches turn into a full blown migraine though!

This just prompted me to look at my practice website as I’m going to be away for work for most of October. I’m in Scotland. The website homepage says that in our area they are arranging for eligible people to have flu jabs at certain designated stations around the county - sounded a bit like voting in polling stations?!

So anyone eligible will be invited in by nhs letter to be sent out on 14th sept - telling them where to go. We mustn’t phone GP practice about flu shots. I’m guessing I’ll be eligible as was on the shielding list as immunesuppressed plus steroids. As my practice nurses are doing blood monitoring monthly and gave me a depomedrome jab 2 days ago it seems illogical that they can’t also give patients like me a flu shot to save me the hassle of finding nearest hub in a month’s time!

I’m going to be in hospital having infusions from 21st and then heading north for work so I’m hoping the letter isn’t too late - but I may just have to pay to get it done at pharmacy if I’ve got to wait until October.

All seems a bit random and not joined up - but then that’s life now eh?!

Will you not be able to just go to a chemist and get it free since you are entitled to one anyway?

Yes I’ve never done this before but now I know about it I will certainly try.

Hi, I have never had any notice to go in for a flu jab at any time. They just wait for you to ring up and they make an appointment for each year. I rang up about a week ago and asked if they were doing them yet. She said yes but they were only doing the over 65's just now. I replied that I was over 65 and could I make an appointment. She then looked at what they had left and they were completely booked as they only do them on a Saturday morning. I have finally got one for 10th Oct. I really would have thought that those of us who have had to shield or are over 65 (in my case I fit both criteria) would have been informed as we could easily slip through the net.

We had letters from our GP practice telling us to make appointments for the flu jab. It needs a bus ride to get there and there are not many buses so you can't guarantee to arrive within 5 minutes of your appointment time. It's not a problem in normal times. I'd just get there early and sit in the waiting room reading, but now they don't let people into the waiting room and I don't fancy possibly standing outside in the rain for anything up to half an hour.

I rang the surgery and asked if I could have the jab done nearer home at a pharmacy. They were fine about it and advised me to make an appointment rather than just turning up. No problem making an appointment at a pharmacy a few minutes' walk from home. I'm surprised your GP surgery made any fuss about your husband not going to them.
