Some of you may know I run a company that supports healthcare clinics and this article came from one of my physio clients.
I love a bit of neuroscience and this very much based on neuroscience and pain receptors.
Thought it was interesting. It advocates massage - not the pummelling, misery inducing painful massage, but a gentle touch. Possibly akin to cranial osteopathy (which is lovely by the way).
I couldn't agree more about cranial osteopathy, I've been using cranial osteopaths for several years and only wish I had known about them when I first started having treatment in the 80s.
I think yes like we rub a toddlers tummy for tummy ache, wipe a fevered brow etc. It goes back to comfort and I go to the Oestopath for back ache, knee pain etc never a doctor. Oddly enough I'd been using Vick on my feet recently and have a cold. Not covid just a old fashioned head cold and used Vick on my chest last night. First night since Tuesday I got a good nights sleep. I also like Reflexology. A bit frightening as years ago she said my toes indicated a kidney problem and as I felt fine I forgot it. A few months later in hospital with an AKI I remembered Sonia's comment. Who knows a guess ? or more to health and diagnosing that we yet understand.
I think we forget the 'old fashioned' things that our grandparents did to sooth pain and instead favour pills, manipulation and ops. When sometimes, just a gentle touch can make so much difference
now I am a great believer in touch being calming and relaxing so get this. However to my frustration when I have a bad fibromyalgia day touch is sometimes the worst thing as my skin goes mental and very painful. So my norm when I feel pain I stroke my arm yet on a fibro day I would not dream of doing it!
