3rd dose reaction or Rheumatoid flare

I had my 3rd covid vaccination a week ago as have abatacept 4 weekly infusions & was 6 months since my 2nd dose. Had little problems after1st dose & sore arm & tiredness a day after the 2nd dose but this third dose has been very different. My arm was very painful for 2 days but as this improved I felt very unwell for a further 3days. Extreme tiredness, sore eyes, very painful joints, headache & aching all over my body. It felt like an extreme rheumatoid flare triggered by the 3rd covid vaccination or was this the side effects of the 3rd Pfizer vaccine. Has anybody had similar problems after 3rd dose or was this side effects of 3rd dose. Have just had my flu jab today so spaced out from the covid vaccine.

Were your first 2 vaccinations the Astra Zeneca ones and possibly this third one which is Pfizer has not agreed with you for some unknown reason . I hope the affects get better soon , of course having the flu vac now as well just tops it all up make sure you report all this so they can take note of your situation .

Thank you for your reply. I have had Pfizer for all 3 vaccinations. I think it triggered a big flare of my rheumatoid arthritis. Looks like others are having a similar response

Oh wow, you describe it as rheumatoid flair. I have had Moderna now both shots. Both shots were pretty similar. Fever, excrutiating headache with occasional shooting pain, body pain, waves of mild nausea, could not stand up for 1 or 2 days, lost appetite, numbness some drooping on either side of face. I do not have underlying RA that I am aware of. I am a severe asthmatic and there is Lupus in my family. I am a covid survivor and did have natural covid antibodies going into the vaccine. I was also apparently longhaul covid going into the vaccine.

Thank you for your reply. I had Pfizer for all 3 doses. It did feel like a big flare so I feel it was triggered by the 3rd vaccination. Feeling better now, just wanted other to know this might happen. Important to still get your 3rd or booster dose

I had mine on Tuesday, I had the Pfizer vaccine, the side effects were very similar to my 1st AZ vaccine. I woke to feeling like a steamroller had run over me crushing my pelvis and ribs, I have ankylosing spondylitis. Every muscle also has deep aches. I also have severe adrenal insufficiency and normally wake feeling my batteries need recharged, which takes a few hours for my steroids to kick in. I’ve been waking with severe low cortisol symptoms, which includes headache, nausea, lightheaded and low BP of around 80/50. So I’ve needed my fast acting steroids small regular doses of hydrocortisone to stop me going into a crisis. Today is day 5, the crushed pelvis and ribs is starting to ease, but my low cortisol symptoms are going no where just yet. The thing that keeps me going is that my body must be very busy producing lots of antibodies 🤗

I had my third dose on Tuesday along with my flu jag. My consultant advised me to stop taking my RA meds the day before, day of and following day. I previously had AZ vaccine and little side effects (apart from after 1st dose my RA meds stopped working).

This time I had Pfizer. Very sore arm, very tired, achy, headache and felt like this for about 4 days. Finally starting to feel a bit better. I wasn’t sure if it was the vaccine, flu jag or missing my RA meds

Thank you for your reply. Sounds very similar to my reaction to the 3rd dose. All ok now, a reminder of how awful flares are & that my abatacept infusions are keeping things in check

I had side effects from both AZ jabs but the 2nd was far worse than the first. Spent the next day in bed as could hardly move and then wasn't good for about a week afterwards, chronic fatigue, stiffness, pain, brain fog, etc. Now waiting to see whether get offered 3rd jab (am on Humira) or just a booster and really hoping it isn't AZ this time. After the first just had a nasty inflammatory headache for about 4-5 hours.

I collapsed after my 2nd pfizer and was violently sick and still dont feel great. Arthritis got worse, headaches, nausea and fatigue. I dread the 3rd vaccine.

I know but I also have chronic leukemia so have a very poor immune system . Catching covid may be far worse.

I stopped taking mtx a week before second j&j booster, which my rhuematologist advised against and had no flare and a mild flu like feeling for a day or two.
