Tell me about it!....started over a week ago with mild sniffles and a sore throat, which has gradully worsened and turned into a sore throat from hell for this past 4 days. Stopped my baricitinib 4 days ago as my wife reckons my throat is septic when she had a look...and I was due to increase it as my RA has not been too good this past couple of months.

Except for a sinus infection a couple of years back, which was very probably a side effect of baricitinib, I can't remember the last time I had a cold...must be at least 12 years probably a few more. Can't help but be concerned how this thing got through my defenses as it could just as easily been covid with a high chance of resulting death with my health issues. :-O A shot across the bow if ever there was one.

Still not heard anything about the 3rd primary vaccine....not a happy chappie! :-(

Another rant over...more to come no doubt...............

Peace V:-) ......... :-O

Sorry to hear you are not feeling well, I wonder after being in lock down last Winter if all these pesky bugs and viruses have been in waiting around for us, I had started venturing into small shops but have pulled back again for the moment on my GP's advice until I have the third jab and flu jab, both of which don't appear to be on the horizon at the moment (chaos and unclear communication). Take care and sending you some warm wishes xx

My grown up son and his girlfriend have just had that - they both felt really rotten for a few days but they are pretty much back to normal now. My Pilates teacher had it a couple of weeks before them. All three did lateral flow tests and my teacher went so far as to have a PCR test as well, everything negative. I had the sore throat part about ten days ago.and felt a bit lightheaded. My husband had the sniffy sneezy part after me but neither of us felt particularly ill. Think there is a lot of whatever it is going around.

wishbone profile image
wishbone in reply toFruitandnutcase

I feel a bit light headed too. I've had this sore throat for 11 days now and have just phoned my GP who's prescribing penicillin. I'm more concerned about developing a cough than anything, did you have one?

Green230461 profile image
Green230461 in reply towishbone

Yes sore throat and cough! Thought I had covid but two tests are negative thank goodness. Chemist suggested Difflam Spray for my throat which has taken the pain away. He said if no better by Monday ring GPlike you I am on immunosuppressant drugs so anything that I shrugged off as a kid fells me like a tree now. Dr does not like giving out antibiotics but sometimes it is the only way to sort me out! Hope you get better over the weekend 🤒

wishbone profile image
wishbone in reply toGreen230461

I don't like taking antibiotics either, but what can we do! Same here with things feeling like a tree....it can be hard work on times

Fruitandnutcase profile image
Fruitandnutcase in reply towishbone

No, none of us had a cough. They were all sneezy and had runny noses as did my Pilates teacher, I just had a slightly sore throat, a bit of a headache, I thought that was because of the painkillers I’m taking for my sacral fracture but I think now it may have gone with the throat and lightheadedness. Hopefully you’ll not get the cough.

wishbone profile image
wishbone in reply toFruitandnutcase

You're lucky. Not exagerrating when I say this is a sore throat from the deepest depths of hell! :-O Well not by much anyway. :-)

Fruitandnutcase profile image
Fruitandnutcase in reply towishbone

I sucked Manuka Honey lozenges they were quite soothing but it never got that bad for me, it just lurked.

wishbone profile image
wishbone in reply toFruitandnutcase

I've been taking manuka honey nearly every day for years. Primarily to help with recurring UTIs I was getting and possibly still will if I stop taking it. I'm mixing a teaspoonfull with a warm beaker of lemsip to help my throat.

Green230461 profile image
Green230461 in reply toFruitandnutcase

You must be wealthy! Manuka honey? Wow I bet they are almost worth being sick for🤒

Fruitandnutcase profile image
Fruitandnutcase in reply toGreen230461

No, I take lozenges made with Manuka honey in them. They’re not that cheap but they taste an awful lot better than some of the things that you can buy. I used to like Merocets which tasted ok but I can’t get them any more. I don’t know why manufacturers think you either want to blow your head off or make your mouth totally numb when you have a sore throat.I actually hate honey - don’t like the sweetness, the smell yuk! Or how sticky it is yuk again. My husband loves honey and I sometimes treat him to a jar of Manuka honey.

We've had it too, about day 11 now and still not good. Missed my etanercept last Friday so don't know whether to take tomorrow or not. Hope you feel better soon, it really is a stinker!

wishbone profile image
wishbone in reply toNatbat87

I'm on day 11 too. Mild sniffles, headache and has exacerbated my tinnitus, but it's this dreadful sore throat that's the main issue for me. It starts to ease a bit for a few hours then gets bad again...weird! I've just contacted my GP about it as packets of Strepsils and Lemsips are not much help. This bug seems more contageous than covid! Hope you improve soon.

Green230461 profile image
Green230461 in reply towishbone

Thank you. Difflam spray has an anaesthetic in it to help the throat. I have moved on to hot honey lemon and whiskey toddies. Lemsip helps as well as uncle Joe’s mint balls!11days sounds like a nightmare I need to stock up on tissues.

Hope you begin to feel better soon. By your estimate I am looking at Friday week for relief- bring on the cake and biscuits!

🤧🤮🥴

wishbone profile image
wishbone in reply toGreen230461

Thank I've been meaning to ask you about Difflam. My wife will see if our local pharmacy has it when she picks up those antibotics later. Fogot to mention that I've been gargling warm salt water too. She's just had a look down my throat and reckons the septic area has increased. :-(

Green230461 profile image
Green230461 in reply towishbone

Wonderful! We RA warriors don’t do things by halves do we?On my second box of tissues today- someone is making money out of this!

My doc said the spray would not interfere with the rest of my handbag of meds so it might be wise asking. It has taken all the pain from my throat today. I can cope with cough but not a sore throat. Best of luck 🤞🏻

wishbone profile image
wishbone in reply toGreen230461

No antibiotics until tomorrow, chemist did have Difflam though. Definitely helps more than the other stuff I've been using. The only problem is the spray button is too stiff for my RA weakened fingers/hands to operate so my wife has to do it for me. Trouble there is that she's not a very good shot! :-)

Sorry you are not feeling well! I have a rotten cold caught from my grandson whom I babysat last week and who has just started school 🙄 - I should have known better. I did do a home test, just in case, as a cough has now started (I think the cough is the worse part of the cold). Honey and lemon!!! I am living on it!

Yep me too I’ve already got an antibiotic resistant chest infection but a couple of days ago my sinuses clogged beyond belief have a headache from hell and feel like I’ve been punched in the face. Nose was running like a tap to start with but seems to have dried up today. No sore throat thank goodness I had to spend 3 days in bed because I was too weak to get up. I’m on the mend today I hope still have almost a week of antibiotics to take and still coughing with chest infection but better than it was. Hope you feel better soon. They say you starve a fever and feed a cold so crunchy but cornflakes are perhaps a good idea lol. I haven’t been anywhere so have no idea where mine came from ??

Green230461 profile image
Green230461 in reply toLeics

It really is nasty! As soon as my head touches the pillow I start to cough. Sitting up is better. Using difflam spray for my throat. Stops the pain!Hot as hell! Got doors and windows open drinking water and tea and dining on paracetamols!

That will teach me venturing into Boots to look at their Christmas offerings.

Hope you get better soon. 🤧

Oh know what a cough which is constant feels like had mine for months. Finally improving very slowly and if not another antibiotic for two weeks grrr. At least I haven’t had a temperature that must be horrid haven’t had one of those for about 15 years however sick I’ve been. Just been called for covid booster which should be 3rd dose but who cares lol. I have made sure that I give it at least a week after antibiotics and hopefully infection will have cleared by then. Hope you improve soon too. I only knew about my antibiotic resistant chest infection coz I sent a sample off obviously knew I had an infection but needed someone to know what to prescribe me to clear it. Maybe worth contacting docs if you’re not better in a few days. I even did a covid test just to be sure although I haven’t been anywhere but had to drop sample off so I suppose that counts. What an exciting life I have atm.

Yes I had started with a what I thought was a cold, then sore throat terrible cough (which I still have 3 weeks later) I truly thought I had the dreaded covid as I had symptoms, but like you I did 2tests all negative Called Gp after I received the results as I was really miserable Turns out I had a throat infection plus a chest infection Got antibiotics and throat spray which finished last week but I still have a horrendous cough and I’m fed up Called Gp again yesterday ,said it was still the dregs of the infection but he’s sending

me a cough bottle I hope it works and I hope you feel better soon 🤞

Leics profile image

Shame you’re poorly too wishbone the only way I got away with a face to face or trip to A&E was because I’d sent a sputum sample in but getting the results was a constant ring around to get someone to look at it. Even the receptionist who was triaging patients yesterday when I phone felt sorry for me lol. 24 hours on I’m improving 🤞after months of having the chest infection that I’m struggling to shift. Hope you feel better soon.

So sorry to hear that you are feeling unwell still. This bug is a real sticker! Normally with a cold it is over in a couple of days but this is a lingering beast. I have stopped my baricitinib so I have aches and pains that may be RA now but my back hurts with the coughing!I was brave- went out Christmas shopping wearing mask but was amazed how many were not wearing them. Having shielded for months I thought people would be like me a bit anxious.

Well that is my venture into the big wide world! Back in my PJ with hot lemon honey toddies.

Hope you start to feel better soon🤔🤧😵‍💫🤮

We've all had the ten year flu that's going around. I take vitamin D and it knocked me out for a couple of days.My partner is only just able to get up after 9 days..

I did find that doing a simple salt water gargle got rid of the need to cough.

Considering my health is pretty poor I got away lightly.

Green230461 profile image
Green230461

Wow! A blast from the past- salt water... my mums cure for everything! To be honest I am going to try this again myself something I had forgotten about. Finished Matt Hancocks Vit D so need to do that again.

Ten year flu? I hope it doesn’t last that long!

It is my own fault after shielding for months I went Christmas shopping last weekend. I wore a mask but still caught the buggy thing.

Hope you get better soon😷🤧🤒

It feels as if its been ill for ages, thankfully not 10years lolLast year this little monster popped its head up in America.

A few years ago i was diagnosed with rhinitis .the hosptal gave me a brand new treatment for it. Nasal rinse. with salt water. Its actually a 2,000 year old Chinese remedy. It works great even with this bug I've not had a running nose.

It seams over the years we have lost a lot of the natural ways to heal ourselves.

Green230461 profile image
Green230461 in reply toTourk

At this point in time I would take a 2000 year old medicine if it stopped this dripping nasal tap. 🤒

Tourk profile image
Tourk in reply toGreen230461

to be fair you don't need any kind of special device.its the act of passing salt water through one nostril and out the other. the bottle just makes it easier.

it very much stops a running nose.

hope this helps
