I have just had my first Benepali injection and talking to the lovely nurse he suggested getting a diabetic travel kit for when we go away. Has anybody else used one of these and can recommend a make, as there are so many on Amazon, but I don't know if insulin pens are shorter than the Benepali pens. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as we are going away next week (not abroad, but will be in the car for quite a while). TIA

I’m not sure but you can resoak it. It’s more about stopping the Benepali from getting too hot really. Benepali can be kept out of the fridge up to 4 weeks as long as it’s under 25 degrees. I usually just leave it in the pouch until I use it. I’ve never resoaked it. You mustn’t put it back in the fridge once it’s been out. I’m going away next week too so let’s hope we both have some good weather 😊
My nephew used to work for virgin. He said if you take jab as carry on luggage the hostesses will put it in the fridge on the plane to extend the cold life for when you get off 🌴🌳
Please don’t do this, the information is wrong. It clearly states in the patient information leaflet do not put it back in the fridge once it’s been out.
Surely if kept at fridge temperature it can be transferred from cool pack to fridge, if it reaches room temperature then cannot be put back into a fridge?
As long as you get a bag with a gauge so you can monitor that the temperature stays within range I should think so but I’ve never asked and the frio doesn’t keep it at the same temp as the fridge. I never put mine back in the fridge after being in there as I don’t know what temp it has got to.
I bought my from amazon. it is called NOMAD and the Banapali pens fit perfectly. I pack it in cool bag with freezer blocks and it lasts at least 5 hours. I have question for anyone in the UK. I am on ORENCIA I will be going on a Cruise and need to know if the pens can go through XRAY machines at Customs.
Hi Lucymead,I’m afraid I don’t know the answer to your question but just wanted to ask how you are finding the Orencia as that is the next med my rheumatologist is lining up for me. Hope you don’t mind me butting in on your post!
Hi Lucy. I have been told that the pens cannot go through the x-ray machines. They need to be taken through customs in a clear plastic bag (still in packaging/coolerbag) and handed to the customs officer with instructions not to go through the machine. You should have a travel certificate/letter from your rhuematologist to allow you to keep the medication with you at all times.
I have been on most Rheumy meds over the last 6 years with some success that didn't last or caused too many problems. Orencia is very good and seems to be controlling my flares and I feel very well. I have been on it for 7 months . We are all here to help each other any time.
Hi lucymead,Thanks for replying. Do you find many side effects with orencia? Did it take long for it to start working? Humira hasn’t done anything after 4 months and I was on enbrel before that, which caused terrible gastritis and didn’t really do much to help my joints. Just still looking for the right one for me…x
I have been on many too and had lots of bad side effects. Started Orencia in Feb but had to stop a couple of times due to flu jab then covid vaccination. Pain started to lessen and joints too. It was about 5/6 weeks when I noticed a real difference. I had been unable to move shoulders without severe pain and hands were always swollen. One Morning I woke up and could make a fist and move my shoulders and put my dressing gown on😀. My gastrologist gave me Pantoprazole to protect my tummy from side effects and they worked. I am now pain free with RA and can do most things. I am hoping to start ballroom dancing again soon I just feel very well. I do hope it works for you. Don't give up. x
