Is anyone else having problems with Metoject pens?

Hi folks :-) Im new here so hope this is okay to post?

I've been on Methotrexate Metoject pens for over 4 years now. I have never had a problem with them until about 6 months ago when I got a whole batch of faulty pens. With the result of trying to get them to work I went without my Methotrexate for a few weeks. This led to a flare up of my RA.

Today I have used 2 Metoject pens and both were faulty. Second one eventually fired but I would have only had a small amount. I'm now worried its happening again!!

Is anyone else having problems with these Metoject pens?

Thank you X

Hi and welcome . Sorry I cant advise but others will as I get mine by infusion xx however I would guess maybe there is a contact number in the delivery invoice or on your initial homecare delivery invoices ??

Thanks Alannah :-) Yes I have all the contact info. Unfortunately they were no help at all the last time. Even when I was becoming more anxious each week due to missing my treatment.

I even said I would keep all the faulty ones to send back to the company and they said it doesn't matter as that company do not take faulty ones back.

I normally have no problem with them and there is no different in my hands that would cause a problem.

Its very strange but worrying too :-(

Thanks x

Hiya Tigs2, welcome. I did have a couple, must have been about 6 months ago, but of course had the other 2 in store until my pharmacist replaced the faulty ones. Should’ve have said, my GP Practice prescribe them & I get them from my local chemist. Anyway, I’ve not had a problem since but won't get my latest repeat until Tuesday, she called an hour ago to say I could (or rather my h) collect all but not my Metoject & Butrans, they'd be there Tuesday. So I’ll first see on Wednesday if my latest batch is faulty too. I'll let you know.

Thank you 😊

I wish I could use our local chemist but my prescriptions come from the rheumatology department and goes directly to the care at home delivery company.

Hi Tigs2. I had one in December, it was the first one in a fresh batch and the liquid ran down my leg but I think it was my fault as I twisted the top off instead of pulling it straight off (don't know why, I had done twelve up until then with no problems). I had a puncture mark in my leg but I must have cracked the chamber inside that holds the liquid when I twisted it.

Hi. Thank you 😊

Yes mine ran down my leg too! Lol

I’ve been using them for over 4 years now with no problems so maybe I’m too relaxed with them.

I was thinking today I may have twisted the top too. Although the last time I had problems I did it so carefully and still they wouldn’t work.

I’m maybe just unlucky and get all the duds! 😬 x

When I rang the Rheumy nurse after it happened to me (I wanted to know if I should do another one or wait until the next week), she said that sometimes you can get bad batches where if the first one is faulty, the others may well be too.

I had few faulty ones a while back which wouldn't spring, and a couple in which the liquid went almost solid ’ - I always check now .

The hospital pharmacy replaced them and made a complaint to the supplier - I had to sign some sort of form

No problems with them since

Thanks janmary.

I did email the Healthcare at home and they text me a couple of days ago to say a pharmacist would contact me, but have not had a call yet.

Fingers crossed for next Thursday in the hope the next one works :-)

I had a faulty one last week, just would not trigger when pressed. First in a new batch, second one was fine.

Thanks Happygranny :-) Im glad im not along.

I am hoping the next one works. If it triggers and breaks your skin but most of it runs out like my second one did you cant take another one as you dont know how much you may have got ! if that makes sense. So I'm really hoping the next one works okay as I dont want to go 2 weeks without the medication.

Stay safe :-)
