It is stated that you should not wash down Biophosphonates with mineral water, but I drink mineral water just as a drink..not to take meds. & i have never thought twice about it.

But if you are prone to gastric upsets, I’d check with your rheumy nurse.

Thank you , that is most helpful. I knew about avoiding it on 'bone tablet' day, ( this tablet refuses to allow the bio word LOL) but I have been puzzled by the multitude of blanket warnings on fizzy drinks.... just didn't make sense to me.Best regards to you

Apologies, I am a little confused! Is it ok to drink down you meds, MTX with usual bottle Still mineral water? Can the Still Mineral Water be ok to drink down usual Vitamins, like Folic Acid and Vitamin D3? The bottled water I normally have is Evian or similar. I also have a Brita filter water Jug, which I use too. Grateful for comments please. Thanks

I have never seen it written down, but personally I would only ever take my medication with tapwater…..unless I was somewhere the water was not safe.

I know some people get it into their heads their tap water doesn’t taste nice… then drink it down quickly, and have a sweet afterwards!

But then I have never been one to read details of swallowing a pill. If there is a special rule like not having grapefruit within an hour of taking some meds,..then of course one should obey that…but that’s as far as I go,

Thanks, Did not realise still mineral water to be a problem with meds!

What are you sure? Who advised you of this as far as I know most of the meds can be taken with moderate alcohol consumption. The odd glass of wine or Fanta isn’t an issue. And I’ve never heard of mineral water being an issue with RA meds but as Aged posts it should not be drunk with bio’s I don’t know as not on bio’s but check with your RA nurse or read up on NRAS website for information.

I think I have probably had a glass of wine every day I have had RA. My rheumy fully supports that…..he says as long as I don’t finish the bottle !

I took AA for 2.5 years & having a glass of wine caused no side effects. The reason not to drink Mineral water to wash down the Biophosphonates is some of the ‘Minerals’ in such waters could clash with the drug & make the drinker feel ill. It is stated quie forcefully in the PIL.

I have never read anything about fizzy drinks & tbh even if I had - as I very rarely drink them…I would probably have ignored it!

News to me about fizzy drinks.... obviously they aren't the best for anyone but I've never been told to cut them altogether. I also have a small amount of alcohol occasionally... apart from on Friday night when I was out, feeling good and indulged. Slightly fuzzy head Saturday but otherwise I'm no worse than I was.

I think OP is on osteoporosis drugs which have different contraindications

never heard that

Well if you have not been prescribed Biophosphonates you wouldn’t have had the PIL saying it would you? Just keep your fingers crossed you never need them.

One suggested reason from the net.Carbonated Beverages

They are infused with carbon dioxide, which leads to belly gas and bloating, making breathing more of a chore.

This annoying AI Summaries make it harder to find the source info is gathered from, but it does make sense, less room for full depth breathing...if you are prone to bloating

Sorry, meant for lung issues thread not RA thread.

I have never heard this, I drink at least 1 can of fizzy drink a day and a good bottle or 2 of wine a week. I am on mtx so I'm not sure if you are on different drugs?

Yes the main type of drugs that you shouldn’t use mineral water to swallow are Biophosphonates NOT Biologics or DMards.

I don’t know about any other drugs….but it would be in noted the PIL if there was a problem with anything except tap water.

Frequent consumption of fizzy drinks containing artificial sweeteners is not healthy for anyone. Aspartame is thought to be carcinogenic.

But I’m sure I read somewhere that even drinking sparkling water often is neither good for our bone health or teeth. As with everything, moderation is the key. Although only one glass of wine 🍷 requires willpower I don’t have (unlike AC) if I’m not driving!
