I’ve been told I can’t have steroid injection into my foot because of taking Benepali Methotrexate and Hydroxychloroquine. I was due to have it in March but it was cancelled because of Covid. Anyone had a similar experience?

Steroid injection
Never heard that. I take Benepali and MTX and haven’t been refused steroid injections. I had ultrasound guided injections into my shoulder in February.
Clemmie
Why not? Who said you can't? Was a reason given?
Don’t understand the reason for this.i take mtx sulfasalazine and Angelita and had both wrists injected a couple of wks ago.
I am an Enbrel (which is similar to Benepali) and Methotrexate and at my appt with rheumatologist last week we discussed having a guided injection into my neck once the Covid risk has calmed a bit.
So don’t understand this at all.
Thank you all for your replies.....much appreciated. I thought it easier to reply to all at one time. I’ve had ultrasound guided injection in this joint by same consultant a number of times before but because of my immune system being suppressed and and risk of Covid I have to wait till it’s over.... I’m waiting for my rheumy nurse to get back to me after she speaks to consultant about it. I can’t imagine the small dose of steroid would increase likelihood of getting Covid!!!! Apologies for long winded reply. Thanks again for taking time to respond X X
Covid is a reason to be cautious. It doesn’t increase the risk of catching covid, but having steroids can increase the risk of covid becoming serious and needing hospitalisation. So at a moment when hospital beds are under pressure doctors are postponing steroid treatments.
It may only be a small dose, but if you catch the virus the day after!!
I had a steroid injection yesterday from my rheumy team and they were very clear with me that I am to shield for at least the next 6-8 weeks now due to having the injection as well as being on prednisone tablets and MTX just being increased. I was happy to go ahead with it and shield as no plans for Christmas this year and am fortunate enough to be working from home still.
My rheumatology team said it is that really fine balance but my well being is being so affected by my flare up they were happy to give me the injection on top of my prednisolone tablets and increased MTX as long as I agreed to shield. So tricky isn’t it? x
My situation doesn’t sound as bad as yours so really hope you get relief from injection and increased Methotrexate. I suppose shielding is the price you have to pay but better than suffering. Thanks for replying x
I took steroids on Methatrexate and Hydroxychloroquine.
