The District Nurse came to do my blood test this morning (I'm shielding). She wore gloves, face mask, and disposable apron. Afterwards she removed all protection and put it all in a plastic bag. The rules are, to leave it for 72hours before putting it in the bin. She was really considerate. 🌻
District Nurse: The District Nurse came to do my blood... - NRAS
District Nurse
Our surgery have offered to send the nurse to do my but I’m continuing to go to the hospital. Two reasons, one I have a low platelet problem & have to have an extra blood test. Two, I have 2 friends with RA who had theirs done at home & both have been sent appointments to go for bloods at the hospital because they have no record of the bloods done via district nurse! Might be absolutely fine with yours but I would follow up if I were you 💕
Haven't been to the surgery for 4 years as I can't stand or walk and we have no transport. The fact that I'm shielding is neither here nor there really. DN has been doing my blood tests for 4 years. My GP and Rheumy get the results any way.
That’s good they have yours sorted out! X
I would have been happier if she took it with her. I would wear gloves to put it in the outside main bin and wash/disinfect everywhere it’s touched and yourself afterwards. I don’t trust the 72 hours. It shifts depending on who you speak to or what you read. They say hard or shiny surfaces could be over a week.
Excellent xx
She was going to another patient. What would you suggest? Leave it in her car? Dump it in a litter bin? She had used the equipment in MY house, I'd rather it went in my bin.
It is good to near that sensible precautions are in place.
When I was unwell the other evening and had to call NHS 24 I was offered a home visit, but advised that the Drs would have been in care homes during their shift and NHS 24 would not therefore recommend I took one, given that I am shielding. Ultimately the decision was mine and I opted for the telephone consultation. But excellent that it was flagged up to me.
The district nurses who come to me are all different.mostly they have all the PPE on.one male nurse takes my temp first too but last time wore no gloves.two nurses put all their disposables in a plastic sealed bag n disposed of it in outer bin. yesterday nurse just put it in our kitchen bin which I wasnt happy about but she was first one who asked to wash her hands.unfortunately my blood spurted all over floor ,chair cushion n jeans .saw this n nearly passed out..lol
