I just wanted to post a little update regarding my on going ankle replacement saga!
Eventually got it swabbed on Friday and the good news ( great actually!) is that there is now no infection. The wound is still a mess, but at least the infection appears to have gone!
District nurses now super attentive and coming to clean and dressed it every two days, which is great after two months of a terrible experience.
Doctor came last Friday to swab it and take temp, BP and bloods.
When the nurses came this Friday, they told me swab was clear but CRP extremely high so, more bloods taken.
However, I haven’t been taking my biologics and leflunomide since the beginning of February - due to being off them before surgery and then infection afterwards, so that’s not really unexpected, to me?
Anyway, that you all so very much for listening to my moaning and your advice and support.
Hope everyone’s as well as can be x

I am so pleased to hear that there is no infection now. So pleased to hear that your are now receiving such good care from your doctor and district nurses.
You certainly have never moaned though bless you. Always happy to listen anytime. Gail x
Yay! Muchly relieved for you Marie. I know you feel you’ve moaned but that's what we're here for, a sounding place for one another where we listen & support... I think we're very fortunate to have that, saves us going completely barmy.
I'm pleased you’ve been having the care which was needed & that it now heals that much better. x
I'm so glad it's now on the mend Eiram (not before time though), been wondering how you are. Glad also that it's getting the attention at last. Take care. xxxx
As I mentioned previously, I have been following the progress of your new ankle.
I'm so pleased to hear the infection has gone. What a huge relief. Hopefully it won't take too long to heal now, so you can get back to your medication!
Btw, you certainly haven't been moaning! That was a horrible and avoidable experience.
Oh I'm so glad to hear this and your persistence has paid off and now things are coming together (even though they should have been before now). So pleased for you. Take care x
Good to hear you are on the mend. We are all just worried, concerned, in pain or all three. No mention of moaning 😊I hope you continue to make good progress. x
So pleased to hear Marie, you certainty haven’t moaned, just said how it is. Really shouldn’t have taken this long too sort out for you. Please take lots of care X
I must have missed your post about infection, poor you, especially at this time with the virus. I am pleased to hear that things are improving now and I hope you wound soon heals. I am still waiting on word for my ankle replacement but if i am honest it does worry me. It is painful but I was still surprised when they said I needed it replaced. Take it easy and look after yourself xx
Great news eiram, I was worried for you about the infection!
It's onwards and upwards now. What stage have you got to with the ankle? Big boot and walking yet?
I had mine replaced about 3 years ago and it is truly wonderful! No pain, can walk for miles (well I could if I wasn't in the shielded group) and even restarted dancing a while ago.
When you think of how many bones are in the foot, it is truly miraculous that they can get through to the ankle/heel and manage to get everything properly aligned!
That’s great to hear that you had such a fantastic result.
Yes, I have the boot on. I no longer need the help of crutches and I’m going to try putting weight on it, without the boot, for a wee while tomorrow.
Although the referral for physio has been done, I accept that won’t be happening for a good while to come so I’ll just keep testing it slowly and keep going x
I had the black boot on for 6weeks rather than 4 because I also have osteoporosis so they wanted to be sure that the bones were fully healed and strong. After the boot came off, the physio got me to stand on the bottom step of the stairs and dip my heels down and up over the edge!! I was pretty horrified at her suggestion, I just wanted to walk round gently and get the feel of it. So I did just that for a week, then started on her exercises. You’ll be surprised at how quickly it all comes together to feel natural again. By the way, if you are ever out shopping (which you probably won’t at the moment) don’t put your basket down on the floor when you’re in the queue and then shunt it with your foot! Big mistake!!
That exercise of hers was very good by the way, it increased the flexibility of the ankle. I hope yours will be as brilliant as mine. No impact sports by the way, no marathons!
I’m so glad that you are finally getting some where.i hope ( really hope) that you manage to get back on your biologics. Hopefully upwards and onwards- hopefully. X
Hi Marie, hope you’re keeping safe and well. I’m pleased the infection has cleared up and I hope your wound continues to heal.
I agree, it’s not surprising that your CRP is high given you’ve got aggressive RA and been off meds for several months. Only you know your usual pattern of inflammatory markers and if this is usual for you. I wonder if there’s some inflammation in your ankle as it’s healing even though the infection is gone..?
