Bad pain under bottom, can't walk properly.

Hi to all. Since just before Christmas I have had bad pain in the creases underneath my bottom. It started off just on the left side but now it is also on the right side as well. I can hardly walk properly or straighten up. For a few days I had pins and needles in my feet as well, but that has gone now.

Two weeks ago, I went for an appointment with my physiotherapist after having had a shoulder replacement. She noticed the fact that I was struggling to walk and I told her how bad the pain was. Obviously she couldn't treat that but she told me to see my GP as soon as possible. When I got home, I rang the surgery and they said that they would get one of the doctors to ring me about it. One of them rang, asked me a few questions and asked me to go along to see her later that day.

When I got there I was seen by a different doctor who he said, was helping her out. He pressed up and down my back and got me to bend forwards and backwards. Then he said it was muscular and as I am already on so many painkillers, there wasn't much to be done about it but it should wear off in time.

I am still in so much pain with it, and if anything it is worse, and now I am not sure what to do. I just wondered if anyone on here has had anything like this.

Scroll to Lower buttock pain, describes symptoms in crease. Might help. woundcaresociety.org/causes...

in reply tocharisma

Thank you for sending me this charisma, I have read it all through and am pretty sure that I have this condition of my tendons being injured. However, very strangely, it has suddenly improved a lot this afternoon, although I am now feeling worse pain in my thighs and lower back. It seems that my pain keeps moving from place to place. I will continue to see how it goes and if it comes back again as bad as it has been, then I think I will either have to revisit my GP or ring up the rheumatology dept at the hospital.

Sounds suspiciously like Fibromyalgia

in reply toBlot

Hi Blot, I do have fibromyalgia, but didn't think of it being caused by that as it doesn't feel like that sort of pain and there doesn't seem to be a tender point for it. However, there is the possibility that it could be that.

A migratory pain is part of the diagnosis but it can sit in one site for a bit longer and be immensely aggravating and due to a number of things because of the inflammation surrounding where it is.

Try looking at the problem differently when you speak to your doctor next. You perhaps may be allergic or sensitive to certain food or drinks; alteration in gut flora or digestion issues. It’s often helpful to think outside the box with these distressing issues in an effort to minimise symptoms.

Thank your for your thoughts Blot. I actually had an MRI scan done yesterday and they said the results should be back in about ten days, so I will see what is said then.

While I can't say I've experienced this, I would go back to your GP and be persistent as you can't keep on suffering. Take care

in reply toPippy25

Thank you Pippy. Strangly, It has improved some this afternoon but there is now bad pain in my thighs and lower back. I will continue to see how it progresses and if it comes back as badly as before, I think I will have to revisit the doctor's surgery or ring the rheumatology dept at the hospital.

Could be sciatica but also also a misalignment of the spine. An osteopath could well sort you out. If you have osteoporosis do tell him/her and they will be more careful

It could well be either of those conditions Blot. I have been told that I have degenerative disc disease so that could be making my spine disaligned. I know that my shoulder on that side is further down than the shoulder on the other side which I am sure is a result of me rupturing the tendons in that shoulder two years ago. It is also possible that it could be sciatica and I know how painful that can be.

Ischium Tuberosity ( bottom bones ) in my case , about 5 years ago - too painful to sit , so prescribed Leflunomide which sorted it out immediately , of which I still take ( have ra 10 yrs ) .

in reply toweymouth321

How long did it take for Leflunomide to work for you weymouth? The reason I ask is because I have just been started on Leflunomide as the Methatrexate I was on didn't seem to be helping me much although I have still been kept on it. I started on Leflunomide 12 days ago and don't feel any different for taking it yet. The pain I am in is getting worse and I am not sure what to do next.

Please ring the Rheumy Helpline to report the Leflunomide hasn’t yet given you any inflammation and pain relief - or write a letter to your ra consultant ; I did this about Rituximab infusion and received a prompt reply

This is what it sounds like to me, too. I got an IM steroid shot that helped. It's terribly painful.

in reply toRAreyna

Thank you for responding. I have rung my doctor's surgery this morning and am waiting for one of the doctors to ring back.

It could be Polymyelitis Rheumatica (PMR). It has a classic symptoms of pain under the buttocks, shoulders and head. It makes you feel like 99 years old on morning wakening and by the evening disappears. It can only be treated with steroids.

in reply toBreakfa52t

I know what you mean Breakfa, I feel about 199 rather than 99 like you say. However, it is quite a bit better in the mornings and gets worse and worse as the day wears on. The pain is now going down the back of my legs (although not as bad as under the buttocks) and it feels like the muscles are being twisted and like they have gone into a spasm. It really is very bad.
