Surgery and restarting if biological

Hi. I had major back surgery three weeks ago and was due to start back on Humira this Wednesday. In the meantime I got a kidney infection. I will not be finished my antibiotics until a week from today. How long should I wait after I finish my antibiotics to restart the Humira? Thanks. I had surgery in France but I live in Ireland but my surgery was an emergency and not speaking French very well has been a nightmare. Would appreciate any wisdom. Thanks

Agree with AC, we can’t give medical advice, you need to speak to your GP or rheumy.

Are you still in france, or back home in ireland? As you need medical advice on this. If you are in france use deepl.com to translate the questions you want to ask (and then translate the answers!)

Good advice hh... My friend’s husband had a heart attack in a small French village whilst they were on a walking holiday...he was taken to hospital ... my friend was found a B&B by the hospital... hubby recovered well and on leaving to come home....all his notes translated into English were handed my friend.....who In fact is a NHS Nurse.

Sadly I can’t see that happening in the UK....although my surgery does provide translation services in 8 languages!

It’s been a long journey. I’m hoping to be home for Xmas. It’s difficult as I have some French but when u are in pain and also on drugs it’s very hard. This recovery is taking forever. I had 35 staples in my back. Getting them removed was like having surgery all over. I can laugh now but not funny last week. My RA doc finally reached me today and I can go back on Humira next week once done with antibiotics. That’s great cause my body is starting to hurt from RA. I’m suppose to walk 5k a day. Not fun when feet are hurting from RA. Thanks for ur reply.

What happened? We’re you in an accident or did you actually go to

France to have the surgery?

It sounds as if you are being well looked after and you’ll be fluent in French when you get home at Christmas.

Take care ....let us know how you are getting on...en Français?

No accident. Went golfing and swung and went to my knees. Turned out I had two ruptured discs and stenosis. Dr said needed to be fixed ASAP. So after 6 hour surgery I should be ok. Just didn’t expect the length of recovery as I had L4 and L5 fused before. This fusion is above there. However, I’ve decided I’m 12 years older since and now I have RA so I just need to be patient. Hopefully it will not color my traveling bug. However, I think I will curtail some of my plans. 🙈🙈

Wow! But never fear..I had C spine 3/4/5/replaced after a car accident with a bone graft from my hip when I was in my 50s and I was playing tennis six months later!

So if you are a good patient you should be picking up your golf clubs by the spring.

Get well soon!

Where are you now, are you home? Even if not home, can you phone your rheum or rheum nurse helpline to get some advice?

I’d be worried about taking advice from someone online given your big surgery and recent infection. Sorry, I know it’s probably not what you want to hear but given all you’ve been you’ve been through lately, I’d want to be extra sure I got the right advice, if I were you.

Rest up and wishing you a speedy recovery. 💐
