Four packs away from stopping

Hi. I have smoked for 29 years. I have four packs left and am then going to give up with patches and tabs. Main reasons for giving up are the cost and that I am in the early stages of COPD. I have tried pretty much everything before to give up, excluding Zyban or hypnotherapy. My main reason for smoking is because that’s what I’ve always done. I love sitting in my spot in the garden having copious amounts of cigarettes. I just need to learn to do that but without the cigarettes! Have decided to link giving up smoking with a complete lifestyle change so to try to lose weight and get fitter at the same time. If I’m going to be miserable, I’m thinking I may as well get it all over and done within one hit!

Hay caitlinmir I like your style! Good luck. Lots of good help on this site. Lifestyle changes can be hard to make but they can also add fun and enjoyment. Tha's how I quit - by accepting that it was going to be awful for a while. It was but it gets less awful and then it gets a bit better and then....I don't know whats next, Im almost six months quit. You can do it

Welcome caitlinmir - wishing you strength in the best decision of your life stop smoking - its great you are making lifestyle changes but be careful not to put too much pressure on yourself. Remaining smoke free is going to take everything you have in the early days, getting healthy and fit can be addressed later on when you are settled in your smoke free life.

You say you are going on the patches and tabs - what are tabs, not familiar with them?

Looking forward to your day 1 post very soon, read up as much as you can here, especially the pinned posts.. :)

Good luck! The first few months were really tough for me. I am now smoke free for 6 months and 15 days and I barely think about a smoke anymore. I was a 30plus year smoker myself!! Just hang in there and believe in yourself!
