Hi, I started Champix on Sunday, today is day 4 and the first day I take an evening dose. I don't feel much different although I have noticed I am not smoking as much and tend to leave half finished ciggies,( I smoke rollies). I haven't had any sickness which I'm putting down to eating with it and drinking peppermint tea, (which BTW is rank!) No sleep disturbances, in fact I'm sleeping better....lol. What should I expect after tonight and taking the extra dose?

Welcome Skyelady , congratulations on the best decision of your life to stop smoking :)

I stopped cold turkey but we have several members here who successfully stopped with the aid of champix who have reached their 1, 2 and 3 year + milestones :)

Have a read of the pinned posts as will find some helpful tips and advice.

Below pinned post is worth a read on what to expect with side effects. With taking the evening dose, sleep may be disrupted and vivid dreams/nightmares experienced. Continue to take the pill with something to eat and peppermint tea if that is working for you not to be nauseous (other members have suggested dry toast and water before taking it)

Looking forward to reading your day 1 post very soon!

What to expect is difficult to explain because each person can have their own experiences. I quit on Chantix. Took it 3 times. I never got the same effect. However food will start to taste better. Your thinking may change such as that dwelling for a smoke might result in some carrots instead. Sleep is from withdrawal. You might feel more calm. It’s not a magic pill. You have to do the work but The chantix helps with the cravings. Good luck with your journey and stay in touch 😊

Thanks to those who answered, I'm now on day five second day of two tablets, morning and evening and so far no side effects. Its now 12.38 GMT and only one ciggie, now thats very unusual for me and I can't say I desperate for another. I'm in the process of writing my dissertation for a business degree and would normally be smoking all the time so I'm chuffed :)

Absolutely nothing! Why are you waiting for all the sickness, no sleeping, nightmares to start? You are probably going to really not be aware you are taking it at all apart from, as you say, lighting up is not so important and they will not taste the same. You are probably going to be one of lucky ones like me and have no side effects. Sleeping is wonderful and I shall miss the dreams when I come off it. 66 days today nicotine free and I’m now cutting the tablets down to just daytime for about a week. Sadly it’s not the same for some people but take each day as it comes.

Good luck, will be thinking of you.

Day six and no side effects, I'm not counting my chickens though, still smoking but didn't have my first till 14.30 today and I've only had six since, thats six rollies not tailor mades. One thing I have noticed.....I'm on 50mg Evorel HRT patches (I'm 50) and since I started these tablets I am suddenly having ferocious night sweats. Could be a coincidence but just wondering if anyone else has heard of it causing hot flushes.

Hi skyelady. I'm glad your doing well. I'm on day 11 of the champix. Everyone is different. I myself have had loads of side effects and hot flushes at night are 1 of them. I smoke rollies and about 30 a day and i have done for 22 years. Today is the first day I've actually noticed how horrid the smell of smoke is and I've only had a couple 2day. I didn't give myself a quit day, I just thought I would see when I was ready. Hopefully it will be swn . Good luck 😊

I wouldn’t doubt hot flashes are related to smoking or a lot of these smoking cessation products. Our hormone system is a touchy thing.

As to side effects from Champix, we are all simply too unique as to how we react to drugs to predict what you personally will experience. Whatever you experience is real for you .. and that’s all that matters. But try to focus on the great aspect of becoming a non smoker and let the first few weeks just roll on. Good luck!

I get some hot flushes with champix. I'm on week 10. On the whole I have felt OK, a bit quiet, some sleep disturbance and vivid dreams, but it is hard to know what is champix and what is nicotine. What I haven't had is that feeling that if I can not have a cigarette, I might as well be dead, and that was a feature of previous attempts.

And here I am, beginning to believe that I won't have to do the dirty anymore. So pleased with myself!

Rooting for you Skyelady
