Hi there, just beginning to quit with Champix and having the worst time right now.

My sleeping pattern is good, everything else is fine, mental health and what not.

But I’m 2 days into using Champix and have had extremely long, gory, nightmares since first taking Champix.

Has anyone else had the same problem? I just get scared and wake up through the night feeling hot and short of breath. Thanks ☺️

Welcome Mal34 and congratulations on the best decision of your life to stop smoking.

We have several members who successfully stopped using champix and are over their 1 and 2 year milestones. I stopped cold turkey almost 2 and a half years ago but have seen here from other members that nightmares is a very common side effect with taking champix - this may be eased or helped by taking the last pill earlier in the day but should get better advice from other members (weekends tend to be quiet here).

Below is a pinned post on common champix side effects worth a read:

We look forward to seeing your Day 1 smoke free post very soon - keep in touch and read up as much as you can here and elsewhere....

Welcome Mal34 - nightmares I believe are a very common side effect of taking champix, I stopped cold turkey so can't offer any advice, think taking earlier may help or maybe some warm milk before bed...keep us updated on how you are getting on...

Hi Mal,

That sounds really tough :( I didn't use Champix, but I have had sleeping problems.

Waking up feeling hot and sweaty is a common thing with anxiety, so be careful with your diet - try to cut out caffeine as that increases anxiety, and make sure you are getting a healthy intake of vitamins as some of these can help improve mood and sleeping.

If the nightmares don't ease and stop in a reasonable amount of time maybe talk to your doctor and consider some other way of quitting.

Hi Mal, seems vivid dreams are common when using chantix. A guy I know from work and another friend who used it to quit have mentioned the dreams👻. Both over 2 + years not smoking now.. Good luck 🚭🔠 Jeff

Mal ..I am a Champix quitter well over 2 years going for 3...Yes, Nasty in the beginning but survivable ...Good advice from Roisin..by timing of the pills you can ease it a lot for yourself...I took no 1 with breakfast 09h00 and no 2 early afternoon like at 15h00 with afternoon tea..!

Had a few very Nasty dreams but that eased off..! My biggest side affect was I could not sleep to dream !!!
