Damn

I let my guard down again on holiday earlier in the month and smoked. I've not smoked since the 19th of Feb so please put my mark back to that.

The really sad thing is that my daughter (7.5 years old) who has never seen me near a cigarette 'caught' me for the first time. The look of disappointment on her face will never leave me. I explained that I was 'only' doing it on holiday and that I promise to stop thereafter but the damage has been done. She now knows that someone in her family smokes/d.

It's so easy to get back into smoking, literally one puff is enough to get hooked again.

Long-story-short - I slipped up (again) but I am still an ex-smoker on day 4 of my new quit.

All the best,

George

Thanks Roisin,

Yes, there was lots of alcohol involved. I'm semi-seriously considering a dry few months to get me back on the non-smoking-tip. I just can't seem to break the bond between having a big drink and smoking therefore I'm going to have to watch the alcohol consumption too. If it means not going out as much then that's a price I'm happy to pay.

Take care,

George

That's it George, make sure there is that long term plan to be in control when you are out. It has to be for the long haul or you will keep going round the vicious circle 🔘

*sorry, correction - I had my last cigarette on the 18th of Feb. The 19th was my first day smoke free.

Thanks Roisin, things are going well. I get the occasional craving but, for the most part, I feel like I don’t smoke and I’m not in the habit of smoking like I was before champix last year. I’ve got my eyes on getting through this first month. One step at a time. Every day I don’t smoke is a minor success!

Fell off the wagon again this weekend. I'm going to take myself out of this forum for the next while till I regroup. As with everyone, lots going on in my personal life (which I know smoking won't help).

Thanks for checking in though, I genuinely appreciate it.

Kind regards,

George

Well done Tryingtquit on getting back on the horse and being honest.... the alcohol is so dangerous for relapsing but can be done if it is a trigger for you (drinking and smoking was never an association I had). A long term plan does need to be put in place so that you don't keep relapsing especially after long periods being smoke free. You CAN be in control of it :)

It’s easy done George, good for you for being honest and then getting back on with it.

When I was little I caught my dad having a sly smoke when he was supposed to have stopped. Well, I didn’t exactly catch him. He heard me coming and threw the cigarette on the ground, but I stood on it (with bare feet, it was summer) and howled in pain. He got the lickings of a dog from my mam! 😀

Don’t beat yourself up, remember what has happened and learn from it. You’ll get there.
