Every time you DONT smoke it will get easier. I promise! Just had a doozy of a day & soo glad i made it through first days that am so proud of I don't want to ruin that. You CAN do this. Sometimes you have to waych a clock and realize craving last 3-5 minutes and NOT the forever they only feel like. Its how i got theu first days. Also i cut a drinking straw to length of cig and pretend smoked that. Sounds strange but it really helped
TBH I think you have good and bad days. I know I have. Yesterday for some reason all I seemed to be doing was eating, it was insane. I had this weird feeling in my tummy all day that felt like hunger. I was drinking loads of water too. Today I feel much better. I have a timetable with dates to achieve and treats lined up I can have if I reach them. Try to instill into your brain you are not giving something up you are saving yourself. If we think we cant have something we tend to want it more lol. So just say Im not smoking today not forever.
so what kind of treats ? laura how many days are you on now?
So day one I went to the coop and bought 3 pound bouquet of flowers. Today at 4pm it will be a week. So I bought a purse yesterday only a fiver and my husband will let me have it after 4pm aslong as I dont have a puff.
My month one is on my phone app calculating how much Iv saved and all the monies I will be transferring to my credit card to pay off my holiday I booked to tenerife for Feb with my sister.
i am gonna give myself a new phone ....today was hard ....it is so much easier when i work .
i can say to myself on break nope .... and when i am off like today and tommorow its so differnt .pfff
Thats an incentive. I dont work so the week is the same as the weekend for me. For the first few days I couldnt be bothered to do anything. So I watched some films, games on my phone word connect is a good one. Researched on internet for help with cravings and the addiction etc. Got my mojo back now. So catching up on all my jobs now. My husband has been a saint. He has never smoked but is giving me space. Take one day at a time. Take deep breaths like you would if you smoked that tricks the brain haha. I will talk to you all day if you want to help you. I have recently been where you are and its bloody hard. All over the web its know as hell week x
wich app do you use on your phone
My quit time. There are probably better ones out there but it has the features I like. I keep pressing the help button it then displays a fact to make you feel better. It doesnt but keeps me occupied. Glad you have a sweet hubby too. It does help. Im looking forward to my sad evening 😂😂 fish and chip takeaway, xfactor and then my favourite Im a celebrity get me outta here. What are you up to ?
Snap laura6 except Pizza night and Strictly in the mix too with a glass or two of vino
It's a mental battle at this stage miranda45 Watch out for the cravings where you "forget" that you're quitting. I found these hardest to deal with but it helps if you're prepared and know it is going to happen. I would be (for instance) driving my car home and I would think, "I'll have a smoke when I get back" And then it hits you that you can't. The same thing would happen when cutting the grass or out shopping - anything that briefly took my mind off thinking of smoking long enough to forget I was supposed to be quitting! It's hard to explain but you'll know what I mean if it happens.
Sorry for the rambling message, hope today goes well for you.
Hey miranda45 - I promise it does get easier. As advised previously, just take it hour by hour for the next few days, the first few weeks are the worst and slowest, once you reach the 1 month milestone, things improve a lot and time passes by much quicker.
By the end of tomorrow, the nicotine will be out of your system and the mental battle will begin as your body and mind starts its rewiring, repair and recovery. Continue to read up as much as you can both here and elsewhere as knowledge is power in our journeys. Stay close to us and post anytime.....
PS My milestone treats were(and still are ) a large Yankee Candle, I am their best customer now!!
Really on the mental cravings, knowing they last 3-5 minites made them easier to deal with. Also they weren't but 2 or 3x a day then not as often. Strong, but not very long & out of the blue.
Those little cravings and pangs really do soon pass. They are just like an annoying little pest screaming for attention. Ignore them, do something else fun and get on with your life. Suddenly you will turn around and notice it is months later and you've mostly forgotten about that pest. Then a decade passes and you cannot even remember when it was that the pest stopped bothering you altogether. You can trust me on that one.
I really liked reading this thread this evening. Keep it up miranda45 and laura6, you skin will look younger for longer, you will be wealthier, healthier, happier and know that you haven't spent your hard-earned cash paying a fat-cat tobacco executive's Million Dollar Pension. They don't care whether you live or die... as long as the smoker numbers stay roughly the same... you personally don't actually matter a hoot to them. Be kind to yourself and your loved ones. You will never regret it.
