Welcome Adam1981 to our community. Perhaps give us more of an introduction on your story, have you started your quit?

In answer to your question, the only person that can help you stop smoking is yourself and having 100% desire and determination to quit.

I suggest reading all the pinned posts across the way for tips and advice.

I would suggest setting a quit date and read up as much as you can on smoking and quitting. We look forward to seeing you in Day 1 very soon :)

Hello Adam and Welcome,

I'm probably not the best person to be offering advice on quitting but I know that the main thing is having the right mindset and sticking to it. Once you've decided you really want to quit then you're more than half way there already but your heart has to be in it and your willpower has to be strong.

I personally rely on cold turkey but there are smoking cessation classes available on the NHS and loads of support and good advice to be had on here. Some quitters swear by Champix and it does seem to work but I didn't want to replace one drug with another so decided to go it alone and hope my willpower would see me through. I recently managed 10 months smoke free before stupidly relapsing for a month but I'm now almost a month in to yet another quit attempt and hoping it will be my last (famous last words or what!).

Set a quit date and then be prepared for whatever your quit throws at you while you adjust to the fact that you no longer have cigarettes to keep you company. I'd be lying if I said it doesn't take a bit of time to get used to but it really isn't that difficult if you can put your mind to it.

I'll be honest and say I used to enjoy smoking but sometimes I wonder if that 'enjoyment' was all in my head. I knew I shouldn't be doing it, in fact I'd got to the point where I was ashamed of my smoking habit and tried to hide the fact by only doing it in the privacy of my back garden or even the grubby garage if it was raining. It sounds pathetic but that's what I used to do! All my friends and family had come to their senses and long since quit and probably thought I had too. I was totally aware of all the risks and hated the fact that I was wasting so much money that could have been put to much better use. That's why, at long last, I'm trying to free myself from the clutches of that nasty habit that I thought was so clever all those years ago when first I taught myself to smoke. Looking back I must have been mad!

With quitting I think the most important things to remember are determination, staying positive and cheerful and keeping your quit in perspective.

Wishing you lots of luck and looking forward to hearing how you get on.

Hi Adam... Wished we could do more as to say yes we will help you to quit but it is solely dependent on your willpower and determination...We can give advice and lend a shoulder but it must come from within....Good for you to know that you must stop...Prepare yourself and set a date and quit... No way around , the only way is through...!!

Hi Adam

In my case it seemed to be easy as I was on 60/70 a day until I realised

it was just a habit that was not on

bad for me but costing me a small

fortune ' how I done it was Nicorette

Spray and sipping luke warm water

500ml and the juice of a whole lemon

too clear my body of all the toxins and

it worked ' you can sip as much as

you want and you will soon find that

you will reach for the lemon water

faster than a cigarette .

Let me know how you get on .

Good luck.

M

one day I walked into my closet and it STANK. It was disgusting and it was MY smell. I took the three packs of cigarettes I had in the house and threw them in the garbage. After 20 years, I went cold turkey, just stopped. I kept thinking about every time someone had wanted to get near me or hug me or kiss me, they would have to smell that revolting stench. Never again!! It was hard but worth it.

And all that money I saved.

I can't tell you I felt physically better, but I felt in control. And very very proud.

Welcome to our community Safta , congratulations on quitting. I too quit cold turkey almost 11 months ago.

As Soon

Welcome Adam1981 I see you have already had some good responses already.

Mindset is very important. You have to really want to do this and from the moment you quit, you have to say and mean, that smoking is not an option.

If you go into this thinking that you can smoke if certain issue in your life happen, all you are doing is leaving a door slightly a open to slip back. You have to shut it tightly, lock it and throw away the key.
