Hi everyone. Day 1 of my quit using champix. Been a smoker for 25 years, and had a heart attack at the beginning of February.....aged 41.
Quit once before for 3 years, but was stupid enough to go back to it
Hope you are all good, keep strong

Hi andrew well done on quitting😆you get alot help and support on here.good luck on your quit.
Wow a heart attack at 41! That's a sobering thought ... I'm 45. Congrats on quitting (again) and for joining our community. Lots of support to be had here. I also quit using champix - using it I finally got my sticky quit and I'm now 16 months quit.
Look forward to reading more posts from you as you progress in your quit.
Hello Andy, welcome to the forum and hope we can help. Keep posting to let us know how you're getting on.
Hi Andrewquits , welcome to this support forum. I am 6 weeks into my quit and still have my tough days but not as many as the days and weeks go on. I would of been beside myself having a heart attack at such a young age. I hope you continue to pop into this forum regularly and hopefully receive all the help and support you need.
Hi Trem. Thanks! Yes, it was pretty damn shocking, but I'm well on the mend and haven't felt so good in years, I've turned my lifestyle round completely. Just one more thing to do, and that's quitting smoking so that I can enjoy many more healthy years with my 4 young children. Of course, I am quitting for myself but my motivation is for them and being able to watch them grow up.
Andrewquits i wish smoking was my last demon on my list to tick off but unfortunately since giving up smoking I am addicted to the taste of food and not rushing a meal so I can go out for a smoke, hence I've put on weight but I'm not ready to deal with that one just yet. I also enjoy a drink or 2 or maybe 3 but at the moment I think that's actually keeping me sane as at least I can sit down and relax with a nice glass of red. 4 young children is great motivation to for giving up. Mine is l looked at my 4 year old granddaughter and thought I want to be around as she grows up. Looking forward to seeing more posts from you
Cheers
With a big smile, I'll say hello, and a warm welcome to this most magnificent forum.I,m so pleased your here, as that's a great sign , your well on the way to be recovering from, what must of been , a very traumatic experience.
Please post and read often, as for me I have found, doing just that, is a tremendous help.
Looking forward to your updates.
All that's left to say, is a huge well done,
Hi Andrew, I'm new here too and after reading about your heart attack at 41 has helped reinforce how important it is to stop. Good luck!
Thanks clothduck. Well done on day 2 for you!
Yep, it was quite shocking. Every doctor I spoke to said "at your age???". I thought I was invincible, won't happen to me kind of thing.
What's done is done, I'm fully mended now and feeling better than ever. Now time to slay these nicodemons.
So many kind people here and motivational stories! We can do it!
Andy
Huge welcome Andrewquits and congratulations on Day 1. Wow! Heart attack at the age of 41, you are an inspiration and motivation to us all here to quit and / or to continue to be smoke free.
With being off them 3 years previously you know what you have to do and we will be here all the way to support and help in whatever way we can in this amazing life changing journey.
There is a few members here that quit here cold turkey, one of them is Hercu , if you want to take a look at the pinned post 'Hercu's Inspirational quotes and analogies' which goes through his journey up to his current 11 month milestone.
I am 8 months smoke free doing it cold turkey and am the best I have been in my quit, has been a roller coaster of a ride but worth it all! For the next month, keep yourself as busy as possible, avoid caffeine and sugary foods (know its hard!), drink buckets of water, deep breaths, bit of daily exercise and above all educate yourself what happens both physically and mentally when we quit.
Your day 1 badge is on its way and look forward to reading your progress
Andy, welcome to the forum. You sound in a really good place now that you are turning your life around and recovered from what must have a massive shock. Lots of support to be had here. I quit a couple of months back and would never have got this far without the support and encouragement you get on here. Post as often as you like - it is always great to hear others stories and especially if you are having a bad moment/day. It is a roller coaster of a journey but definitely worth it
Hi Andrew...Welcome and good for you....I have quit with the aid of Champix and although it is not the magic pill that allows you to quit without all the normal quitting symptoms...I believed it eased my mind and I believed that it will work and it did... Stay strong and please report on side effects if any....!!!
Hi Hercu. Thanks
Im not sure what the Champix is doing/not doing. But day 1 went pretty good, maybe its just taking the edge off of things. To be honest, I dont really care if its only a placebo even, as long as I quit!
The only side effects are these really vivid dreams. Every night I have them, and they are often quite dark/depressing.
Other than that, doing good. Day 2!
