Ta-dah! Well, who would have believed it? Not me, for starters.
ONE - WHOLE - MONTH...resisting the knee-jerk reaction to roll one up at the slightest uncomfortable emotion or boredom; of being smell-free of smoke (yeurch!); of being able to breath without the accompaniment of a tuneless wheeze; without the depressing ground hog day feeling of another failed Day 1; without hating myself for smoking! And it goes on....
At the same time, it's been the month from hell and probably the worst month ever to begin a quit, but there's no looking back now (except to see how far I've come!) so a MASSIVE thank you to everyone for your invaluable support and wisdom, and for 'going there' before me so that I have evidence that the seemingly impossible is actually possible for me!

Tell you what, Badge, it's impossible to imagine the forum without you now. It seems like you've always been with us, equally sharing your wisdom and making us smile.
Huge congratulations on getting your first month under your belt. I know for me, that was the point when I really began to believe I could stay the course. It's a lovely feeling and even better is the knowledge that it really does get easier and easier from here onwards. That isn't to say you won't have some skirmishes ahead but they become fewer and further between and you have all the amunition you need to blast the enemy asunder now.
I shall look forward to you sharing the next stage of your journey with us.

As you can tell, hysteria (listeria, wysteria? - one of them anyway) has completely set in. I think it's the forethought of the next four days to come at my friend's as we deal with the day of mourning.
Anyway, I am sooooo grateful for your comments and encouragements - I NEED THEM! (I think I also need a psychiatrist but we'll put that on the back-burner for now). Without them, I really wouldn't be able to carry on. I'm hanging on to "that it really does get easier and easier from here onwards. ".
And talking of 'big fat treats' KarriKaboodle.....this afternoon, a work colleague was delivered a massive box, nay CARTON! of assorted chocolate boxes from Thorntons. He had hardly removed the outside container when I did a headfirst dive into it that Tom Daley would have been proud of. No idea why I'm not putting on heaps of weight - must be the nervous energy!
And I like the idea of getting addicted to 'not smoking'. That's one addiction I can live with (oh, as well as a life-time supply of chocolate).
Very much appreciate your cheering comments and support. A sail through month 2 would certainly be welcome!
May be all quiet on the western front from me for a couple of days as I attend to a friend's bereavement but as in the words of Arnie Schwarzoid, I'll be back..
Thank you Tiar-a (geddit?) and Buttercupsie. Well I wasn't away for long!
Just stopped off at a service station (which is where I'd 'normally' have a fag) and couldn't resist checking in - this is a lifeline!
And yes Skidders, the funeral is tomorrow. I do hope it passes smoothly and with dignity. My friend has been threatened with violence by the 'grieving' brother of her late husband. Absolute psycho-basket of the first order. Anyway there are enough of Alan's (who has died) strapping male friends to protect her, plus me doing an impersonation of a bouncing kangaroo with boxing gloves on (context: the two brothers never got on).
Meantime, I'm praying for peace and sensibility and am really looking forward to reporting back a tale that is the complete opposite of what has been threatened.

And most of all, ONE SHALT NOT SMOKE!!
Hi Badge, in such a difficult situation, when emotions are flying, I do hope you manage to get through the day smoke free. I always find apprehension is worse than reality, so am sending positive vibes your way, for tomorrow.

Well done Badge - one month in, but an old hand already
